Old DOS game, got to play it in the 90ies, somewhat similar to Wipeout. You could choose\upgrade hovering vehicles and race them on various tracks. I definitely remember an underground track with lots of lava. You could also shoot the competing NPC vehicles. Any ideas?

Was it 2d? I 'm not sure what you mean by "space", but "Scorched Earth" featured some celestial backgrounds, and various terrains that might be described as various planets...

Looks similar, but unfortunately not it. There was a official-kind-of-looking race, and not inside a spaceship, but on various tracks, and not kinda space motorcycles, but more like small spaceships... Thanks for trying to help me, though, very much appreciated!
