I had a CD with about 250 demoversions. It said the games were from 1994, but they were just from the general time era. I think the game I am looking for was called something like "the island" or "the isle". YOu would buy your stuff, and then sail to an island. There you had to gather ressources...

I never played Black and White but everybody described this game to me as the game you describe.
