Favorite Game of this Console Generation

if i'm honest, probably Bastion. Loved that game. still think about it all the time, hum the music, etc. also Dark Souls. I think they both get the benefit of being recent. But while many others have been great games of the gen, they didn't have the personal impact that is needed to make the top...

History and Legend in Call of Juarez: Gunslinger

Great game. i always thought the wild west was rich pickings for shooters but have been consistently been disappointed for a number of reasons. COJ had no bullshit, it was short, fun as hell, and interesting to boot. For that reason, i'll probably play it many times, which is more than i can...

Game Features You're Tired of Seeing

Turret sections. they are boring and almost always break the pacing. at their worst they are also cheap if you dont memorise where stuff is going to be coming from. Also, games that tell me to follow a person and then place a massive sign above the person in case i forgot what i should be doing.

NPC's (as partners): Do we really need them?

i dont like using them at all. i hate it when games give you an extra obligation, particularly ones like skyrim that are otherwise about my total freedom (i realise that i'm contradicting myself because i am free to take them or not if i want). also on my list are relationships in games, which...

Games you love, but everybody else hates

i liked Brink. Although i think in my books its getting extra marks for trying something a bit different. i will admit it had its problems - huge hype, terrible maps, clickety guns, bad online/AI/mission design, impassable choke points galore, and bugs ahoy, but i still had heaps of fun. It...

    E3 Preview: Borderlands 2

i got the impression that the increase in difficulty didn't go away after the coop partner logged out. maybe player 2 was still logged in but not doing anything. either way, i expect it will work hte same as the first one with scaling difficulty with more players.

What do you do when faced with an exceptionally dificult level?

Nope. did exactly the same. same on both counts in fact. i also turn the game off take a day or two and come back ready to roll. it usually works a treat, whether its dark souls or the last few challenges on tiny wings.

Entire 38 Studios Staff Laid Off, Effective Immediately

yep, you're right. prob gave the wrong impression there. in Oz the employees would have almost certainly been made redundant in this situation. i was just talking in the context of the US, presumably the US system is a lot less fair for employees. OT: it is sad. i thought KoA was pretty good...

Entire 38 Studios Staff Laid Off, Effective Immediately

Nope, in Australia you would know it as being made redundant, which carries with it a lot of other entitlments and obligations. Being fired you just get paid your notice and that's it. By firing the staff they have saved a lot of extra money on entitlements that the would have otherwise have...

Ever feel sorry for the enemies you've killed in a game?

Totally agree on this one. I also felt bad about killing the Rakk Hive in Borderlands. It was just chillin' in its field until i came along and torched it because some mystical space woman told me to. Clearly the big animals (ugly or cute) tug at the heart strings.
