This "gone too far" reaction is the whole point of the trailer. Americans aren't used to seeing their own country blown to pieces.

Some parts of the story seem like they weren't entierly thought out, but otherwise a good game. I don't have LIVE either, put I still use multiplayer with bots. It's not quite like online, but on higher difficulty the bots can be pretty challenging.
If you can find a copy, I'd say Joint Task Force for the PC. I saw it on cinematech one night and figured I'd try it. It turned into one of my favorites, but like I said, good luck finding a copy.
