    Why the big swords anyway?

    Because these swords are used in fantasy worlds. Have you /seen/ how fast characters swing around swords of this seemingly unrealistic size? these are not normal humans, they jump great distances and block bullets with swords. ... Fantasy worlds have different physics than our world.
