A couple more thoughts from me on what not to do in an RPG, even if some of these sound (distressingly) common. I'm also echoing some of the comments above.
1) Make your characters have genders. We're all tired of the boys who look like girls or the boys who look super-femmy, etc...
I second the desire for strong story lines and dialog. It seems that the best way of doing this is to have a linear plot, however, which really chafes some players. Unfortunately, it's impossible to weave deep characters and a great big storyline together with a huge question mark as the overall...
