Do you see anyone complaining that Rockstar skimped on the singleplayer in Max Payne 3? No, because it's length is just right and it's paced pretty well. If the game were 4 hours long you would have reason to complain. As it really isn't, especially on harder difficulties, you're complaining...

I found it oodles more fun than Gears of War, mostly in part due to the hilariously charming French robot accomplice, Cain. Oh and the fact that blowing enemies heads off actually converts them to YOUR side, and they open fire on their former teammates like heavily armed headless chickens...

I'm hardly listening to anything other than soundtracks these days. Especially Joe Hisaishi's soundtracks for the films of Hiyao Miyazaki. I've also rekindled my love for Radiohead, good god Kid A is a wonderful album.

First I wanna say that the original post is the most heartwarming thing I've heard all week. I'd recommend Cogs, or World of Goo, maybe even Machinarium. All games require a good degree of puzzle solving and minimal instructions, and are just all-round charming as hell.

Yakuza 3 and 4 are excellent games. Valkyria Chronicles is wonderful from the looks of it (haven't played it yet, just ordered it from Amazon), Medal of Honor: Frontline is probably the best World War II shooter ever and its got a HD-version on the PSN.
