If I may venture a baseless guess, part of the hatred towards certain dubs might be on the grounds that the questionable/bad dialogue of certain cartoons becomes more noticeable when you can actually understand the language.

Sonic Adventure 2 is "good" if you ignore various large portions of the gameplay.
