I agree, start with Solyaris, then Stalker and Andrei Rublev. I wasn't a big fan of Ivan's Childhood, but loved The Sacrifice. Mirror is his most experimental film and hard going for someone not familiar with his work I would imagine.

Roy Andersson is awesome. "You, The Living" is one of the most fresh and original films I've seen in years. OT: Close between Andrei Tarkovsky, Ingmar Bergman, Masaki Kobayashi and Takeshi Kitano. Tarkovsky probably edges it.

Experimental/Avant-garde metal. Favorite bands are Cynic, Ne Obliviscaris and Warning.

This morning I watched "Werckmeister Harmonies" and last night "Through A Glass, Darkly". Werckmeister was excellent, but some of it was a bit over my head and Through A Glass is one of the best films I've ever seen.
