It depends what game you want. Zelda looks far more epic on the 3dsXL, but Luigi's mansion is hideous on there. If you want newer games I'd suggest the XL as they'll probably be built with the XL's larger screen in mind. If you're searching for a safe bet, I'd say try to get a used, regular 3ds...
