Two ideas from me:
One is an SRPG with an emphasis on environmental tactics. So weapons and magic are used but are more effective in conjunction with other things e.g. using thunder on a pool of water causes large area shock damage, fire sets oil alight etc. The other novel thing would be...
Make something with a huge emphasis on exploration. Game world doesn't have to be massive, but should be detailed enough to make exploration organic and fun, with NPCs having more of an impact on the main characters, choice words and inquiries leading to lengthy investigations, hidden dungeons...
Have they explicity stated that the new guy isn't just Tommy with a rad new hat? They kinda look alike, only new guy has a less plasticine looking face
Skies of Arcadia, though i'd settle for them hurrying up and making the sequel.

Disgaea 3, I can spend hours just bumping up the numbers of my dudes slowly but surely. Go through phases of getting sick of the game though, so my other great time vampire is probably:
Just Cause 2. The gamer in me plays it because it's consistantly fun, the OCD masochistic maniac in my...
1. Teleportation (not the philosophically awkward kind, simple transfer of matter from A-B)
2. Muay Thai (or Akido) mastery
3. Because phasing into some dude's house and wrecking them would be pragmatic and awesome
