This isn't a move to deter pirates, it is more a way to stop the retailers such as Gamestop etc from making a huge profit margin. New game comes out, say 59.99, someone doesn't like it trades it in less than a week and the credit is probably 20 or less, and Gamestop sells this now "used" game...
