The exposure from having your game featured on a popular website based on an extremely popular series is a huge help to anyone looking to get their names out there, plus having a published game online looks great in a portfolio. Thats the angle I'm looking at it from.
What they are saying is that if you submit your game, you can't go off and sell it later. They aren't taking credit away from you or selling it themselves, they just reserve the rights to the game itself. It's their intellectual property.

Canadian Game development student here, a few of us are wondering if we can submit an entry as a team or if the rules state that it has to be one game per person.
