I grew tired of grinding for deeds ages ago. Grinding is getting old; it only adds to the mindless repetition of quests with the mindless repetition of deeds. Thusly it only makes the game -- you guessed it -- still mindlessly repetitive. I've seen far better alternatives in older MMOs...
Isn't this more an argument about semantics? Problems with the language barrier seem to be more often a source for this article than actual concepts. The word "game" is too broad a category to start with.
Personally, I love games with a hard learning curve -- it gets rid of a lot of the riff-raff. If you play MMOs or online-based games and you're sick of hearing from juvenile players, finding a game with a tough learning curve is one good way to weed them out.
