    Games that can't take losing

Maybe I'm old, but I can't believe NBA Jam hasn't been mentioned in this thread. The computer assistance would make it so that if you were winning by the fourth quarter, you would miss all of your shots, not get any rebounds, and the other team would immediately just run up and steal the ball...

Do you find over confident arrogant video game protagonists annoying?

Yeah I agree with the thread starter actually, I felt like the only time I ever liked the overly macho protagonist was in Gears of War, and that's just because the game is so over-the-top with testosterone and near-homoeroticism that it comes off as ridiculous, ironic, and, to come full circle...

The Deterioration of Video Game Difficulty

Like others have said, it's because video games are more about experience and vicariously following the protagonist's story. Even the original Legend of Zelda had a save system that was introduced because of the scope of the game. When you're playing Missile Command or Pac Man or Donkey Kong...

    Sega: Ultimate Megadrive Collection

Yeah, Golden Axe III is HORRIBLE. I think it was either never released outside of Japan, or never released at all...I don't remember which. All of the Streets of Rage games are good, though. 1 is a little dated, but still fun. 3 is hard as hell but still fun. 2 is fucking awesome. No complaints...

    Sega: Ultimate Megadrive Collection

Yeah it's amazing, and totally worth it. Shinobi III is the manliest game ever concieved. Some of these games totally suck, but the main Sonic games, Streets of Rage 1-3, Golden Axe, Shinobi Arcade, Gain Ground, Dynamite Headdy, Mean Bean Machine, and Vectorman 1+2 are still amazing games today...

    Games as art? Settled!

In reply to these points: 1. Who says he isn't? 2. There is, but there also doesn't need to be, since art isn't meant to be viewed in any single definitive or objective way. 3. It can be, yes. It can also be art because of the video, sound, writing, or experience it conveys. Just like any...

anybody else rockin Puzzle Quest: Galactrix?

Yeah that's fair enough...I wonder how they're going to do the hacking parts on a controller, since it's timed. Maybe just extend the time?

anybody else rockin Puzzle Quest: Galactrix?

I can't stop playing...I really want to stop, but I can't. Most people seem disappointed with it, maybe I'm the only one who isn't?

Revolutionary game concepts that never caught on

Characters permanantly dying isn't a bad concept, but considering every other game is based on a narrative where this doesn't happen, I always end up replaying Fire Emblem missions not because I NEED that character, but because I'm used to my main characters not dying in games...it's a bad...

What still-prominent old-school concepts have become completely outdated in modern games?

Haha, I thought that was the point. Maybe I'm giving him too much credit? TOO LATE, it made me laugh, he's a genius.

What still-prominent old-school concepts have become completely outdated in modern games?

Well Katamari Damashi is a rare example of doing something fun with the concept, just like Mario games. I'm talking not so much about games based around the idea of collecting, but more adding it to a game to extend the gameplay. I'm sure I'll get people pissed at me, but I feel like save...

Someday I hope my dream will come true and someone will FINALLY make a WWII first-person shooter. I guess I'll have to keep waiting...SIGH.

Revolutionary game concepts that never caught on

So one thing I've noticed about modern video games, is that once a game does something well and/or makes a lot of money with it, it gets totally copied by nearly every other game in that genre. I guess a good example is the recharging life/shield in Halo, using the 3D plane and mouse in Quake...
