While it doesn't particularly fall under all of your "things to keep in mind", I highly recommend the anime "Gokudou-kun Manyuuki" (Also known as just "Gokudo"). It's a comedy that parodies fantasy adventure animes like Slayers. It's really fun to watch and is one of my personal favorites.
