What (if any) textbook you use can also be important. For a good bunch of my math years (just finished my last math course this Christmas) I used mainly the book for learning math. We had a great one where two and two pages went together to each form a sub-chapter, 8-13-ish of these per chapter...
It's just a part of language like the rest; if you use it well, it'll enhance your speech/writing, but if you use it too much or when/where it doesn't fit, you'll just seem a fool.
In Skyrim, when I get to my execution and the dragon flies past, the guards always drag me to the block and lop my head off. I just can't get past it. I get executed every time. I swear I can hear the dragon chortle as it decides to go to Riverrun or wherever instead, every time. :[
