Games you love that nobody ever talks about

Freespace 2 holds up ridiculously well, thanks to some highly capable modders. That early mission in the nebula will never not be incredibly, amazingly, horrifyingly tense.

Probably Call of Cthulhu: Shadow Over Innsmouth/Dark Corners of the Earth. Flawed to hell and back but a lot of the survival-horror like elements are very unique and have never really been duplicated. It was a big inspiration for the more successful game Amnesia.

    The Wave

It's a good book/movie, really drives home the point that Nazism wasn't some vile movement that emerged from a vacuum, but a manipulation of social structures appealing to the basest fears of ordinary people like you or me.

Are you saying that the manly hot tub scene isn't the best in video gaming history?

Tv Shows or films that make you visibly uncomfortable

Without knowing what it really was beforehand, I watched A Serbian Film with my mother. Most awkward moment of my life, I think.

Serious question for feminist critique of video games

Let me put it this way: is it culturally acceptable to shoot an individual in front of you without having justified the shooting by drawing upon the tenets of a construct like religion beforehand? A "culture" does not simply imply that something happens, but also that it is seen as normal or...

Serious question for feminist critique of video games

I think Gone Home, for one, is a solid example of what can be done in this regard.

A Queston to old pokemon fans coming out of "retirement"

Steelix is a great physical wall and actually deals very respectable damage with Gyro Ball comboed with Curse. Back when I watched competitive play Steelix was sometimes used to set up Stealth Rock and survive punishment with its massive defense and Sturdy.

    Don't hit a girl?

Yes, it's a snarky joke. No, disproportionate response is not cool.

Worst moments in otherwise great games

The Bed of Chaos in Dark Souls is the one time in the entire game where the game doesn't play by its own rules, making the fight feel cheap and unfulfilled even if you manage to win.

Your feeling's pretty accurate, as the designers rotate between generations. While certain stylistic qualities are constant there are differences in each gen.

    DotA vs LoL...which is better?

I've definitely seen this and can attest to this, but basing a character's gimmickiness based on the skill level of the person playing them is rather problematic. If that's the case you can say, for example, Ryu of Street Fighter is gimmicky, because bad players can beat other bad players by...

Serious question for feminist critique of video games

Last I heard she was essentially a consultant for Mirror's Edge 2. I know for a fact that she was asked to speak at Bungie but oddly I'm only getting second-hand shit for her involvement with EA, so I'm starting to question whether it's actually true or was a "woman wreckin our gams"...

Anita has collaborated with DICE. She is DOING something, regardless of your opinion of it.
