    Many choices here. Freelancer, starlancer, tachyon, nexus: jupiter incident, all off the top of my head. If not, go back and replay Freespace (and ST and 2) with friends!

    I figure a quid pro quo should work here, after Taj's request :))). I'm looking for a decently old game (I think it was made no later than 1996 or so), in which you play a witch. It is a 2D platformer, and you get spells, I forget whether you pick them up or you get them at the end of levels...

    Crystal caves! An awesome game by apogee, it might be it. It fits all the criteria, at any rate :).
