That thing about not pressing charges, I don’t know if it’s common in the US but there are certain offences in Australia - domestic abuse for example - which the police are obligated to investigate regardless. But they’re usually crimes that involve violence, although robbery by definition involves violence. But in 1969, if someone said they weren’t interested in pursuing it I don’t see the cops doing anything other than saying “Woohoo!” and going away. So yeah I agree that’s odd.
Even domestic abuse here the cops can't really do much if the person doesn't want to press charges or isn't cooperative. One of my friends is a retired state trooper and detective and he has tons of stories obviously. He'll sometimes talk about some domestic abuse cases where the woman won't cooperate/press charges and then he's back out there in like a month and she's beat up even worse than before and sometimes worse than that as well. There's not much you can do if the person won't testify or they'll just lie in front of a jury and say they fell or something. And, of course, there's certain crime stats that are technically true but not actually true like a guy in our board game group is like "we shouldn't even put people in jail because like only 0.2% of people are repeat criminals (or whatever the actual stat is)" and my friend is like "he has no fucking clue what he's talking about".

Star Wars: The Clone Wars: the movie, some of season 1, some of the 2003 Cartoon Network show

Since 7 old-school TV length seasons of a cartoon show is way too daunting for me but I have some interest in more Star Wars, I found a reddit post where someone listed the best episodes to watch and in chronological order, so I started following that. Basically I'm at the end of an abridged first season. I understand that it is considered the weakest part of the show and the best is yet to come.

I'm finding it very OK so far, but I really just do not like this animation look and style. I keep thinking of the marionette style in Team America: World Police (itself an homage to Thunderbirds) with the stupid blocky heads.
Some of the plots are fine- it's kind of cool to see Jedi at the heights of their powers, leading armies and executing schemes and strategies and whatnot. Biggest problem for me is knowing it's all pointless.
And having an Anakin who is- at least so far- unabashedly heroic, after the second prequel leading up these events already showed the start of his turn towards evil.

How much I continue is largely dependent on my patience with this shitty looking cartoon though. I just can't take any of it seriously.

I will say two things. I'm not going to say that they will necessarily convince you, but I feel like you should at least be aware. The animation style...doesn't really change in terms of style, but it becomes more "clean" as the show goes on, if that makes any sense. Secondly, pretty much every character gets some growth and depth throughout the series, but Anakin and Ahsoka are especially major recipients of this.

Season 1 is rough as fuck. There’s a few gems in there but Clone Wars was made during a time where it was still possible for a show to flounder a little in its first season and still be allowed to continue and vastly improve. If it was made today it would have been axed after episode 10 of its first season.

And Bobmaster is right, the animation style remains the same but it does get tweaked and tidied up considerably. And it is worth sticking it out to the later seasons; Matt Lanter is basically a one man saving throw for Anakin’s prequel era characterisation to say nothing else of the amount of flesh it adds to the prequel era characters.

The Underwater Menace, a Patrick Troughton era Doctor Who story which has been animated due to missing bits.

Famous previously for existing bits in which a very silly and OtT evil scientist rants at things in an entertaining way, but unfortunately the wacky charm of that wasn't present the whole way through.

I'm continuing primarily because each episode is so short- the perfect work break or thing to watch with a snack.

And I'll take any promise of fleshing out Anakin's character to make up for the travesty of the prequels. And I'm a little curious about Ahsoka because while she's not interesting yet, I did see Rosario Dawson try to add some depth to her character when she appeared in the Mandalorian, bless her heart.

Yesterday evening, watched the final episode of Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. If you want a great satire of the cheesy 80's horror shows that were second-rate at best Twilight Zone shows, you can't do much better than this show. Matt Berry is a well-renowned comedian for a reason, and this is one of his first roles, so it's got that going for it as well. Entire run is on YouTube, all 6 episodes of it. Recommend it highly.

"I know writers who use subtext, and they're all cowards. Okay, what I was asking in that scene is '"What if politicians continue to pay doctors peanuts, could they literally turn into monkeys?" And no one's asked that before."

Fun fact: This show is, relatively directly, a parody of the Danish series Riget.

Justin Willman: Magic Lover (Netflix)

Magician Justin Willman's latest hour-long performance. Really good; can't explain anything I saw, like, none of it. Guy is really good, funny, and clever. Recommended for anyone who likes up-close magic and/or comedy.
