if you had only had 1 chance to be able to represent gaming as a whole what would you chose? how could you encompass the world of gaming in one example? obviously this is a hard choice as you can't use all the different types. someone has no opinion on gaming and who doesn't have time to be able to play more than 1 game all the way through due to various reasons which game would you choose to have?
if i had to choose i'd go with an assassin's creed game, shows alot about the story based elements the intrigue level the beatiful landscapes and beautiful free flowing parqour effects.

but thats just me what about you?

Jade Empire, definitely.

I think the main point is showing that you can escape into another world, in which case, atmosphere is the most desirable trait.

Jade Empire, (snip)
same idea as me really i like the idea of showing someone a new world and landscape that immerse themselves, i feel the idea of giving them something that they are accustom to like books and show that video games are just as good if not better (they are)

Okami.

It's about telling a story, exploring fantastic landscapes, and creativity. Although the 20 minute intro will throw them off a bit.

Arkham Asylum worked really well for my ex, but that's mostly because she already liked Batman. On the whole I'm going to say Fable, because if I don't mention it at least 10 times a day on this forum peter molyneux kills a hostage.

Hmm.... Fun gameplay and terrible writing does encompass a large majority of games.

A fair pick.
Also, it's really easy. It's actually is geared towards a casual audience, if you think about it.

And I know a lot of guys whose wives really dig Fable, too...

yeah i liked arkham asylum as a story game it really shows batman as the kick-ass he is, lol this would be a fair choice, choose something that is common place outside of gaming show them a game that has a character their familiar with in a prime example of gaming.

Senko No Ronde, which is probably the most current incarnation of the first videogame; Space War.

It was... above current average. Sort of. Ok the writing was terrible but I think they realised that and just decided to push it to amusingly ridiculous.

Portal worked well for me when trying to show my girlfriend what gaming is about. It has humor, puzzles, and a good story. And it doesn't revolve around the "go here and murder things" that turns most people away from gaming.

yeah thats what i thought when i mentioned because of assassin's creed because in the first one it is very little about ACTUAL killing its more subtefuge and intrigue like listening to a conversation and pickpocketing, i see it a similar thing

It seems so easy, but...Portal. I mean, the writing is good, the atmosphere is good by virtue of gameplay (As opposed to simple cut scenes, text, etc), builds atmosphere and characters via the game mechanics, it incredibly polished, is not a power fantasy. It's even short, so the investment isn't daunting. Immediately after that, Portal 2.It seems so cliche, but sometimes things are universally beloved for a reason.

If the person is a artsy-fartsy type looking down their nose pretentiously, Id be tied between The Path, Passage, or The Marriage. The first would appeal to that type of person, and the second and third would lead into an excellent argument about how games will surpass all other mediums as a form of expression.

Tough choice, but I'd probably use one of these: (Sorry, can't narrow it down!)

Half-life 2, Bioshock, Oblivion, Portal, Legend of Zelda (TP or OoT), Arkham Asylum, Mario, Shadow of the Colossus, GTA/Saints Row.

i see a smaller indie title being pretty good at this as well, bridge the gap between the facebook games and more full length games, perhaps super meat boy? or the wonderful end of the world ( i got the potato pack so i have these games on the mind)

Call of Duty 4

since every shooter has been copying it since
...and call of duty copied every other shooter before them, and the ones before call of duty copied he ones before them, and the ones before them copied..., Etc, Etc, Etc.

No game is original, since even the 1st video-games were ripoffs of toys, and they were rips off of ordinary games like tig, or hide and seek... Everything is just a better rip off than the last. So to represent gaming to someone, you have to go through the whole bloody history of gaming to show them how downhill it's gone since we ditched the PS2s, Gamecubes and Gameboy advance SPs (Because almost no-one had an X-box, and X-box games were 90% terrible anyway, apart from Halo, and others, but Halo is awful anyway, and is only remotely fun for the story, and/or Halo:2's arbiter sections which everyone got butthurt about except me, oh, and forge, but that is as good as a cardboard box, maybe worse.).
