I'm going to second you on HP printers.
You know those alignment sheets you have to scan when you install a new ink cartridge? My PSC1500 actually doesn't realise that I'm trying to do just that when I scan one of these and just scans it as an image to the computer. The printer works fine without alignment, begging the question of why I need these sheets in the first place. This shitheap of a printer cannot turn on without making a new one of these, which has wasted about 100 or so sheets of paper.
Trying to download patches for the software is crippled by the client, which cannot realise I am already connected to the internet. Incidentally, I think these problems were caused by a shitty patch in the first place, as it was a decent sort of thing until I first patched it. The rollers often take up too many sheets of paper at once. The cover for the scanner glass is falling off. Honestly, I can't see how it can break this much. I haven't even moved the thing in three years.
Recommendation: Burn it.
