They were shills, which is not a word I like to use, but it's really the most appropriate title for them. The were never-Trumper Republicans... until they realized how much money Democrats were giving them, and then they started backing Democrats all over the place, not just against Trump or Trump people.

If anyone was determined to stop Trump, they needed to unseat even moderate Republicans, given that pretty much the entire party had decided to play the role of Trump doormat.
They spent more money attacking Susan Collins than any other senator. She is one of five Republicans to vote to have Trump's second impeachment trial.
And one of the ~52 who declined to impeach him first time round. Maybe if she had, they'd have left her alone.
