What if the Steam version requires Origin to start? Wouldn't that suck, to buy the game off of Steam but have to download Origin and run it on top of Steam just to get the game to start?
And online distribution program within an online distribution program?
That would be awfully stupid.

Anyway, I think that this whole affair will, in the end, be good for the market. It all sparks competition, which, ideally, leads to improvements which, hopefully, benefit the consumer.

I somehow doubt that a company would give up an exclusive that would get their expensive-to-make service up to a major status. Or at least EA wouldn't.

Great, so I may even buy it some day. Perhaps on a sale. But good to hear.

What I don't understand is, if people buy the game via Steam, why would they buy DLC from anywhere else? That's why I think this rumor is bullshit. Because I think EA is lying about their reasons to pull their titles from Steam. Maybe they will reach an agreement, but it will have nothing to do with this DLC business.

It has already happened, with GFWL.
It's irritating to be sure, but not as irritating as some current EA titles.

'cos one of the reasons I have games on steam is that it keeps my games up to date while I sleep.
Launching an EA game on Steam = "oh hey, I'll just spend 30 minutes getting a patch now"

FUUUU EA.

Fuck Steam. I hope EA doesn't offer Battlefield 3 there.
Why? Did you ever stop to think that maybe some people prefer to have their games in one place they're familiar with? Even if it's available on Steam no one will be forcing you to buy it through Steam. Are you trolling?

Their EULA have been altered to where they don't do that anymore than Steam.
At least, that's what I've heard from multiple people here and elsewhere.

From what I've seen it's been changed to the point that they won't share the information, they'll still collect and store it, Origin will still snoop through your files, they just won't give it to third parties.
What's strangely missing now is what actually happens to you info, they no longer say.

Also, you give up your rights to a trial by jury, which sucks.

Trial by Jury? That uis a bit emotive isn't it? You give up your rights to join a class action suit. Pretty much only in the U.S. (maybe Canada as well?). The same rights you have already given up to Sony and AT&T. Hey they are your courts, your laws, maybe you should do something to get them changed?

If it is on Steam, I think it will still need Origin to launch. I've been playing the Beta, Origin has no impact on my PC's performance and is a hell of a lot better than GFWL.

Nah, their EULA only says they won't sell stuff in a manner that identifies you personally.
Statistics are still up for sale.

You better raise that flameshield high.

OT: If this is going to end up running through Steam... Seriously I'm never gonna doubt Valve again. They will gain +100 to blind confidence on them.

No but now EA has snooped through your computer, distributed any porn they may have found throughout the office and are now deciding how to best advertise towards you and what price they can get for your information.

A sliver of glass in your urethra is better than Games for Windows Live, but I digress.

Any company that makes me give up legal rights to use their products may as well plaster big flashing GIF's on their website saying "We're totally going to screw you over at one point and you can't do anything when it happens". This clause still applies here in the UK, but I don't see why the law has to change when I can just not install the program.

Just to add one more thing here, and I was thinking of making a thread for this but I have work tomorrow and it's late here in the land of haggis.
EA hide the origin terms of use, go ahead and try to find it without downloading the program. I could only get to it by following a random link in some short-lived thread on another site. Otherwise you just get the PC terms of use, which strips you of your legal rights but doesn't tell you about the whole snooping through your computer thing.

This exact same thread just popped up on Giantbomb, and a good point was quickly brought up:

Anyway, I doubt this is true. If it is, it would sound like EA is giving up on Origin, but corporations don't just "give up" on heavily publicized products, even if the reception isn't so great.
It would be the same as running Dawn of War 2 on Steam. You can buy it off steam, but you still need GFWL to actually play it online. Thankfully Retribution dropped GFWL.

snip
Facetious much?

Now I don't use the Book of Faces but I don't have a problem with tailored advertising, because then companies might actually try to sell me something I want instead of crap I have no interest in. I'm not adverse to companies checking my software to see what I use, I have nothing to hide, hell they might even start making more games I'd want to buy rather than just whatever DICE make and the third ME game (which they would be stupid not to make Origin exclusive on PC).

They are forbidden to distribute or sell my information, indeed they are forbiddien from collecting any specific information about me or my computer use, or even to distribute or sell the agregated information collected from all Origin users, as per the terms of the EULA which I did read.

Get used to that class action clause, because unless the U.S. Supreme court's decision is overturned more and more companies will be covering their arses. Don't blame EA, Sony, or even AT&T, this is the fault of the U.S. legal system. Another reason I'm glad to be Australian.
