Everyone wants the latest television and the shiniest games. but 3d television? Wouldn't this destroy your eyes, and yes it would be incredibly awesome to have 3d games. As of next year these tv's will be coming out. what does anyone else think about this?

Wont be getting it to the technology behind it is significantly more advanced, and easier to use, don't want to have sit front and center to see the 3d effect. In 2-3 years when it's affordable, supported, and mostly useful, and not gimmicky.

I think games/tv are fine the way it is, its going to get pretty pricey to go much further, save the 3D for theaters

Destroy your eyes. (Sarcasm) Yeah it will, there is a direct correlation between too much 3D and eye decomposition. It's a price we pay. (/Sarcasm)

Really? This would have come up in quality control don't you think? 3D looks limited right now anyway and far too expensive.

I will only approve of 3DTV when they make it so that no one will need to wear polarized specs.
But i doubt that it'll be affordable or reasonably priced. It is too much of a luxury, I'd rather invest on a good home theater...

Actually, 3D games aren't new. There were always 3d glasses that worked with certain games.

But until we get holodeck technology, I won't be impressed by 3D effects that require me to wear some additional glasses (yeah, I know there aren't alternatives)

3d television and 3d gaming is going to very restricted and I wouldn't expect this tech to become mainstream in the near future, maybe in 10-20years then yes however the only way that I know of to create a 3D image is either through image trickery and the use of Lasers which is not healthy for the eye

I would not feel comfortable playing on those TV's after a certain amount of time. The fact that you have to sit in a certain position and have you head staying at a certain position or otherwise, a 'motion sickness' would occur is something that doesn't sit well with me.

Thats if we need glasses for it to work, i am just basing this theory off the IMAX 3D screen and its effects.

3D television is like the current trend of 3D movies. Most of them are of poor quality, designed with the sole purpose to mark up prices by 30%, and not worth it at all.

In short, I think it's rather fucking stupid.

for what it costs, anyway

Ironically, most of you are wrong. Any tv with a refresh rate above 120hz should be 3d ready, but will require glasses. Most Tv's sold in the past 2 years have at least offered a 120hz refresh, and most are very affordable. Then there is the new project sharp is working on which will give a true 3d picture with no glasses - a technology believed to be similar to what they intend to use on the 3DS. Frankly, I am beside myself with excitement, since EVERY game in this current generation could be presented in full 3D - none of this "waiting for a good game in 3d" - with minimal software updates. This is the future, and its much closer then a 10-20 year time frame. We're looking at something closer to 6 months to 4 years before it is the standard people will want, even if they dont currently have it.

You guys need to read this [http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/3d-polarized-projector,2589.html] article. It's about making a wicked projected 3d screen for PC gaming. And he does it for around $3000, which is about what you'd pay for a 3d ready TV.

It also explains the difference between the theater style 3d (which uses 2 projectors that are polarized, so that a viewer only needs passive polarized glasses) and 3d tvs which require a high refresh rate and active shutter glasses, but these also dim the image.

OK, can we just look into the history books for a second? Wasn't this 3D thing a fad back in the 80's or 90's that fell on its face, crushing the plastic wrap and cardboard glasses you had to have? I know technology has improved since then, but I wear glasses anyway. So why the heck would I want to wear some ill fiting 3D glasses along with my perscriptions just to shoot something in a game in my own home?

Am I just naive? Am I wrong? Am I cheap? Do I not make any sense? What? I need a strait answer, and it seems this is the only place I can get one.

I will get one when I don't need glasses and need a new TV. Oh what the hell who am I kidding I'm never going to get one unless its good at being A. a standard 2D TV and B. competitively priced with 2D TVs

I just think we are starting to get to many letters and numbers on tvs. Can't wait for the 3DHDTV1080i televisions. Man that is going to be a mouth full for the salesmen/women/people (for the politically correct out there)

Well like anything it's a matter of opinion. I personally can't wait for 3d gaming. Some people hate the idea. Whatever. As to what happened 20-30 years ago, that was crap and died with good reason. The colours were bad, there was lots of washover between lenses and it just generally didn't do a good job of being 3d. The technology in place now is almost completely different.

The 3D tvs are still very expensive and the glasses suck, so my bet is either it'll become popular thanks to dual projectors (I linked in my post above) or a new tv technology that allows it to somehow polarize it's light with only one screen. Well that or possibly glasses with the screens right on them a-la virtual reality.

Either way, it's coming on in full force now and it's really just a matter of time. I guess wait and see what happens!
