I'm fairly certain they stated the 3ds is going nowhere and will remain paralel to the switch, just the Wii U is killed off.

As for the first person rpg system, I also used to dislike those, but Strange Journey fixed that, which is why it holds a special place in my heart. If you want other good ones that will make you like the genre, Demon's Gaze (mentioned above) as well as Dungeon Travelers 2, Stranger of Sword City and Ray Gigant are all great ones.
It's pretty clear the system's on its way out, though. I just hope it holds on long enough for me to get my DQ11 localization.
DQ11 isn't really like that, you have actual char models that are visible and not just particle effects spawning from char portraits. Only the older ones were like that. But yeah, it's old fashioned so I don't expect to see it much. It honestly had sort of a revival on the vita which was awesome though.

I think we're talking past each other here. What makes the Etrian Odyssey series its own unique thing is the whole aspect of mapping the dungeons yourself on the second screen, something that really doesn't work on any system but the DS/3DS (and possibly the WiiU, but we never did get an Etrian Odyssey on that system). These second-screen applications simply don't exist on a system like the Switch.
