Maybe you are unaware of the current state of most Western economies? We barely have the money to support ourselves, let alone a legion of overpopulated third world countries!

My personal opinion on the matter is that the people in these countries shouldn't breed. They must know that they won't be able to feed their children, that in fact they won't be able to give their children any type of life worth having, so why do they keep having children? Don't try using lack of birth control as justification either. I'd rather go celibate my whole life then bring a child into a world where they would suffer and die young.

Yes, it's tragic that people (IT'S NOT JUST FUCKING KIDS, IT'S ADULTS TOO!) in Africa starve to death. But there really isn't anything that can be done to help all of them.

I always hate to point this out to the idealists, but the world is already overpopulated. As it currently stands, it will become even more overpopulated because people are doing everything they can to keep each other alive as long as possible, and that's just bad for the planet. People need to die so that the planet can keep supporting us, and since your civilized societies are trying to avoid death, that leaves the third-world countries to pick up the slack. It sounds gruesome, but I would prefer a few people died than have all of them die because people are too selfish to think of the planet which they are killing and draining the limited resources from.

This'll make me sound like a bastard, but hey I am.

I'm tired of people who think we need to fix everything, starving shildren? quickly bury the country in corn, no cure for the common cold? *cracks whip* damn it scientists work faster. If we did end up solving all those problems in your ideal world the only thing that would kill humans is old age and at that point medicine would be so advanced 150 could be considered middle age. Then world population would skyrocket the 6 billion people on the planet right now? That would be the population of a small country there wouldn't be enough room for everyone and the rate we would use resources would leave the planet and dry withering husk, soil would eventually be over farmed and useless and living would be cramped and uncomfortable. So you say millions of people starving to death is a bad thing, well I say it's a good thing and don't try any of that empathy nonsense on me "You'd feel differently if you were one of those starving people." Well no shit I would but I'm not, everyone dies eventually there's no stopping that.

Its estimated that this year around 5 million children, mostly in areas like africa, will die of hunger. and it just shocks me that we in the west can just sit around as if nothing is happening. i mean i no we give some aid or whatever, but its pathetic, like the US doesnt even give .01% of its gdp, yet it can fund military projects etc. like i dont really have much of a point, but like do you not think its a pretty sad enditment on us all that we throw away money like we do in the west while so many people die needlessly?
High death rates keep population from spiraling out of control, which it's doing anyway.

Yes, it is tragic, but just look at the state of countries such as the United States - their has always been a tremendous amount of people living at or below the poverty line, so until something can be done about those people, then I strongly disagree with sending money to help other countries. Just because places are prosperous does not mean that they are obligated to help out those who are struggling, particularly when we're talking about nations.

I propose a new idea: You get food only if you use birth control!
No, but seriously, many parts of the world are fucked by overpopulation, and nature does its best to remedy that. It's harsh, but that's nature for ya.
EDIT: Also, Greenland looks pretty fucked, doesn't it?

If you haven't noticed, OP, there are people starving, homeless, jobless, and drug addicts here in the US. I say we fix our problems first. And...if you really haven't noticed it, then what utopia do you live in? Gimme an address, seriously, I'd like to move there so that I can have the affordable income to actually send help to people who need it. But until then? ...it's their own damned fault in the first place.

The US is not the big mommy who kisses the owwies of other countries and coddles them. We have our own problems that need fixing; we aren't a perfect country that can afford sending help. In fact, I'd bet we'd see a lot more money in the US' Treasury if we'd stop sending support except to our immediate allies and neighbors.
A salute to you.

We here in the US have our own problems to fix and besides the best to thing to send over there, would be an army to topple the warlords/set up proper governments/handout food. Of course, if we sent out troops, everyone would scream bloody murder and cry out against "American Imperialism"!

You mean the areas where Catholics informed people that condoms are ineffective and can transmit AIDs?

Yeah, wonder why they aren't using birth control. *rolls eyes*

When our own country stops having people who are homeless, don't have health insurance and are choosing between a roof and food I'll start caring about the rest of the world.

I am well aware of this. That is why I especially dislike religious charities.
