Subject says it all. RPG, Strategy, Adventure, anything is good. I just want something to keep me busy for a while.

System Specs:
i380M Proccesor
8GB of Ram
Intel HD Graphics (1st Gen)

Yeah, its not great, but it keeps me occupied with older/indie games.

Dunno how much $5 is in pound sterling, but maybe get one of the indie bundles on sale? Cheap, 5 games, bound to run on pretty much any PC.
If that's too much, I've heard good things about the little RPGs by Zeboyd.

The bad news is those specs won't run much of anything... the good news is, most of the things in the under $5 section of the store actually /are/ old enough to run comfortably.

Some recommendations by genre:

Roguelike: Dungeons of Dredmor

Strategy: Sid Meier's Civilization III Complete

RPG: Haven't played this personally (I own it, but haven't had the time to try it) but the Cthulu Saves the World/Breath of Death VII double pack is only $2.99

Platformer: VVVVVV -- one of my personal favorite games of all time, incidentally

FPS: Jedi Knight and Dark Forces are both $4.99, although be warned that they're old -- Jedi Knight is a Windows game from the mid 90's with all the little annoyances running it on a modern system entails (not to mention a redbook audio soundtrack that you can't get in the Steam version without a fairly complicated workaround), and Dark Forces, while awesome, is a DOS game that came out around the same time as Duke Nukem 3D.

Why not get Team Fortress 2, and then buy a hat? That's what I would do and have done...

Dungeons of dredmor or The binding of Isaac. Both excellent games that you'll play for a long time.

Not a bad idea, but I haven't installed TF 2 again. Just did a clean install of windows and still need to install TF2, which runs fairly well.

Intel integrated graphics have come a long way, and they can run more things than you think but i will look into those games.

Dungeons of Dredmore and the Binding o Isaac seem to be the most recommended but I'll try anything.

The Binding of Isaac as others have said, it's given me over 100 hours now and I still play it every now and again. Although just be prepared to get your arse handed to you for a few runs before you start learning all of the tips and tricks you need to get through it all, it might be frustrating for maybe 1 or 2 hours, but it does just get so amazing when you have a whole bunch of items and new floors unlocked.

Also, it might not give you as many hours as a roguelike, but Super Meat Boy is hands down the best platformer I've ever played. It's difficult but if you die, it's because you made a mistake. So much satisfaction to be had when you complete a hard level on that game.

Shame you missed the sale on Ys Oath of Felgana a few days back,

For you gaming dollar Binding of Isaac is my choice.

TBH I think you had best just stick to Freeware as there are some good games if you know where to look, some that I would have no quams paying for

Some of these will get you started http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_freeware_video_games

Also add GunGirl2 which is a very good sidescroller imo
Blue Wish Resurrection Plus

You might find the odd game doesn't support pads, but Xpadder or Joy2key will fix that.

I agree with this, but be warned, your few first playthroughs might anger you, as many of the items you get are not explained, so you can hurt yourself (The tarot cards for example). But after you play a while, and start to learn it, you find yourself getting better, and suddenly you have days worth of hours in the game

Yes, plus this gives you the Premier Club which gives you more space in your backpack, among other stuff.

Well, I cracked down and bought BoI, wow, that game has kicked my butt more than once in the first 30 minutes of playing but oh well, a challenge is always good!

Do you think Super Meat Boy will run on my computer?

EDIT: I looked at the specs and they seem VERY VERY Low, I might check it out but is it really worth $15?
