Basically, while filming a reality TV show (possibly "The First 48", if it matters) police raided a house they thought had a fugitive of some sort inside, and in the resulting raid, a young girl was shot and killed.

However, the story the police gave was different than the one caught on the tapes of the reality show's cameras. From the video, it appears that the cops threw a flashbang grenade in threw a window, then one of the cops shot into the house from the porch. The story the police told was a bit different, with them saying they threw the grenade, entered the house, bumped into the stumbling Grandma, then an officer's weapon "discharged" and hit the girl.

This whole story is a bit confusing, and it raises all sorts of issues. Does the presence of a film crew alter the situation to a degree that demands a change in tactics? What really happened inside that house that led to a 7-year old girl being killed? Are Detroit police just a bunch of assholes? Discuss.

PS- I freaking hate MSN. The adds on that site, combined with that stupid "Facebook/Twitter" bar on the bottom of the page make the whole story difficult to read.

This shit happens sometimes. Cops clear a house and a few times they have a rookie in the midst who's a bit trigger happy. I dunno, I tend to stay out of these kind of threads...

Always sad to see another life lost. Even worse that the police lied about it as opposed to just saying what happened.

The things is though, it's not just a rookie's mistake, it's possibly the entire Detroit police department that tried to cover it up.

And then there is them saying that the presence of the cameras demanded a change in tactics.

I know this thing happens just too often, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't stop and take a look at it when it does, or we really just become desensitized to it all, and it becomes another norm.

I'm sure they had a reason to be there, I mean cops don't just through flash grenades though windows for a noise complaint.

Well, I really don't think cops would do this just to kill a girl, and the attorney's statement about 'police not using stun grenades unless armed suspect with nobody else home' is a stretched attorney statement and should not be taken seriously, as it was only said for dramatic effect and is irrelevant.

Hey what is that that just came through my windo-

She wasn't really a girl, she was a disguised serial killer!

My praise to the brave officers who managed to take care of this situation this quickly before lives were lost.

Lulz aside, shit happens. While I doubt that it's that easy to confuse a 7 year old with anything resembling a threat (like a 5 year old, for example), it's the nature of their work for confusing shit to happen. Protecting their own, whatever the actual cause of this apparent accident was, makes sense.

You really think that's funny? Have some fucking respect.
I'm not being funny...ever since the fall of Palmer Park the place is hell..
Sorry for overreacting, but I still don't think anything justifies shooting an innocent 7 year old. I already have low opinions of cops so this certainly didn't help. And of course Detroit sucks, but cops should still be civilized.

I'd wait a few days, it was probably a drug bust.

Indeed they were.
