Dear gamer friends of the internet,
I have some extra cash and have decided to upgrade my portable system (I still have an advance sp, however, I am torn between the PSP and the DS. I've had a PSP several times in the past and have always ended up selling it again later. The thing is, I really know very little about either games current library. Please advise.

Love,
LaneMartain

It might help if you gave us examples of games you enjoyed so we could make a recomendation...

I'd suggest a DS, it has a far stronger library than the PSP, it's more socially acceptable, if you enjoyed the GBA you're gonna love the DS and it's the handheld I own.

In my opinion, neither have a desireable games library.

Although, DS would come out on top for me.

I would get the DS with:
Scribblenauts
Prof. Laytons Pandora's Box and Mysterious Village
Drawn to Life
Pokemon Games

Or get the PSP with:
Gran Tourismo: Prolouge
Final Fantasy: dissidia.

Seriously. That's all.

I'm sure there are others who will tell you I'm wrong but I don't personally like portable gaming and have little interest in what's available so my knowledge of what's around is pretty poor. There are other games around, but I wouldn't suggest any of them.

If it were me I'd buy a couple of books or Angry Birds on your iPhone.

This is what i was thinking, with the next generation of handhelds so close you might as well wait just a bit longer and get that, unless of course you have eye problems then I'd say the DS.

DS has a big library of games, many awesome, some amazing, others... not. A big part of it though is some companies just jumping on the "casual game" bandwagon and rush out cheap games. The rest just kind of fall prey to Sturgeon's Law. Personally, I find the DS games to often be better thought out than the PSP, which has a remarkable amount of samey stuff. I find Lost Magic uses the DS's unique features very well, and Professor Layton is just plain addicting.

If you do decide on a PSP, make sure to invest in a memory stick. The standard one will not have the room to really do anything with.

I've always found that odd. It obviously has a more...almsot childish vibe. But I think the reson is that playing PSP in public gives the "I'm a gamer" signal to others so they keep away.
(especially my PSP with Kratos on it. It scares the ones who know who he is.)
