Well since Daystar and Scientist seem to want one, how about a let's be happy about humanity thread? I can think of a fair amount of moments where I see something and just smile happily at it, or think "It's amazing we did that!" Personally I seem to enjoy the little things people do most since they affect us more personally, and it's always nice to think that people just being friendly can help someones day be better. I always love seeing strangers being kind to one another. I even once didn't realize that I didn't have enough cash for some food I was getting at a stand and the guy behind me paid for me, and we had a nice conversation afterwards. Put me in a great mood all day.

There's a greeter at Walmart, he's a little old guy, the nicest person I've ever met.
He takes his job WAY beyond the requirements and he has that happy personality that's just infectious and makes even the most angry person smile.

He's an old guy, a greeter at Walmat,
the dude probably doesn't make very much money.
Why should he be so happy?
He could probably keep his job by doing less, but he chooses not to.

I enjoy seeing really old married couples that are actually happy with one another.

I also enjoy when people remember little details about you or things you've said so long ago. Reassures me that most people are genuine and actually care for one another.

That and young married couples. There's nothing nicer than seeing a couple who at the peak of their love for each other.

Named in the OP, aww yeah. At least I assume it's me, unless there's another Scientist around the place, in which case there's going to be fisticuffs.

I don't believe I saw another Scientist talking with Daystar in the pessimism thread, unless I missed something in which case I should really check my comprehension skills. Hmm...

Anyway the married thing reminds me of a news story last year about an old couple in the hospital. Both were dying and the husband passed, but his wife was holding his hand from the bed next to his and his monitor was picking up her heartbeat from her hand to his until she passed an hour later.

I was recently thinking that humanity has done a lot of horrible things, but...they also made garlic bread.

How bad could we really be?

I love Ted haha

Anyway when I think of things that make me go "wow" I think of rocket launches, going into space, the amount of data we can fit into a tiny space now, architectural achievements, art, and things like that. I think the realization of how crazy some of that is can be insane.

I really like Aaron Sorkin's work. I haven't watched The West Wing but I love The Newsroom, The Social Network and Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, this kind of television makes me happy as it isn't stupid humour or warmed over drama. It's intellectual, it's many-faceted and above all (for a hedonist like me anyway) it is entertaining.

Oh man, oh dude, I don't mean to gush, but you need to go watch The West Wing RIGHT NOW.

There's this show I like called Russell Howard's Good News. I hear some people can't stand the guy, but I find his boyish pep refreshing. Anyhow, the premise of the show is basically him commenting on (and making fun of) recent news. But that's not why I watch it: each show ends with a segment called It's Not All Doom and Gloom. In this segment he shows stories of people doing awesome things to each other, just for the sake of being awesome. It's all very mushy, but if you can watch INADaG and not at least feel the most miniscule amount of joy, you have no soul.
The man has no arms, no legs, and he's happy. While I can't share his endless optimism, if that's not inspiring, I don't know what is. Because fuck misanthropy.

Humanity invented a series of tubes that can relay intelligence from any part of the word and disperse it to the rest of the world near instantaneously.

Whole of humanity's knowledge barring a few lost records of ancient civilizations is literally at our finger tips.

If that doesn't make you smile I don't know what will.

Well, yeah, most people use it for porn but... IT DOESN'T MATTER TEH INTARWEBZ R KEWL

You know when people touch their foreheads together as a gesture of affection, usually with their signifiant other?

Well, for some reason I always find that to be profoundly touching. More so than kissing, hugging or any other such gesture. Don't know why, but there you go.

I was walking in the high street the other day, and it was really windy, coats were billowing, umbrellas turning inside out, you get the picture.

This little old lady was taking a fairly big amount of money out a cash point but before she could get it into her purse, the wind swept it out of her hand and halfway down the street. Lots of people saw this happen.

Everyone, in my line of vision at least, starting grabbing hold of the money before it got further away, and gave it back to the old lady. Little kids were doing it, teenagers were helping out, I picked up a couple, even an old fella who had trouble bending down to pick up the notes. In the end she got every bit of it back and was on her merry way.

This town isn't the nicest place, and seeing everyone doing something honourable made me smile.

I once saw an old couple. The old woman was moseying on over to a the restaurant and the old man was hobbling towards her with using his cane. She said "Come on, boy." and he went "I'm hurrying, Girl."

My Wife and I found this absolutely adorable because we call each other Girl and Boy. Mostly because were are both still kids in a lot of ways.

Side note thats also happy. At my wedding my little Nephew and I were talking my Wife was trying to get his attention. So she shouted "Boy!" and both my Nephew and I turned and stared at attention to her. It cracked up the court house lady.

I love that! I always watch it when I need a smile. The joy and happiness on people's faces is really amazing.

I watched a show called Chopped on Food Network. In it four chefs compete to make a dish with surprise ingredients. The last chef standing at the end wins $10,000.

An episode was showing were they had chefs who had previously participated but didn't win.

Regardless, two chefs in particular were participating. One was named Lance and the other Chef Yoanne. Yoanne was originally from France and hoping to win the money so she could fly back home to see her ailing grandmother.

As the show continues, Yoanne and Lance beat the other two contestants. In the Main Course round, Yoanne actually trips while running to the sink, and spills boiling hot water all over her legs. However, she continues competing.

The final dessert round it's Lance and Yoanne facing off. They both do great, but Lance is declared winner by the judges. Yoanne is obviously heart broken.

Everyone is congratulating him, and Yoanne is about to walk off the set, when Lance suddenly says, "Wait."

He looks at her and goes, "You deserve to see your grandmother. I want to give you the ticket."

This was a decent chunk of change. The look on her face was priceless. It was just such a beautiful and unexpected action.

Crappy quality, but here:
