*Spoiler Warning*

I was playing through Mass Effect 3, and had just completed the section with the Cerberus attack on the Citadel. Thane Krios, valued Drell companion from ME2, has just been wounded and i go to the hospital area to talk with him.

When i get there i am told that he's going to die and there's nothing to stop it.

His son is present and together we read him a passage from the Drell holybook.

I shed several tears as he passes away peacefully in the hospital bed.

I have never cried at a video game before, i don't know what exactly did it. The scene wasn't hyped up at all, there was no sad music, or any music, being played, and yet i found myself crying over the death of one of the characters.

Perhaps it was the simple, yet emotional way that the scene was up together? The last rites being read out by myself and Thane's son?

Whatever it was, i think i owe Bioware my congratulations.

(I haven't completed ME3 yet, so please, if you reply, no spoilers.)

"Thane dies after Cerberus blows up the Citadel!!! This is a Mass Effect 3 thread!!! Don't post any spoilers though, guys. I hate it when things get spoiled for me."

Hmm...

Hmmmmm...

Having said that, you're far, far from alone. This thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.373715-Moments-in-Games-that-Made-you-Cry?page=1] might be of interest to you.

But you should probably beat ME3 first before venturing forth. There are... spoilers.

Like the ones you posted.

In your first sentence.

My thoughts exactly...I'm actually taken aback by the pure hypocricy of this thread. I just don't know what to say at such flagrant non-use of spoiler tags...or even a warning for that matter. Edit: inb4 OP edit...though I'd still say this topic is a spoiler trap. :p

OT: So you cried at a part in a game...what of it? How is there discussion value in this?

You'd be surprised!

Check out the link I gave. For a lot of people there, the example given is their video game crying cherry getting popped. This isn't something everyone knew games were capable of.

I haven't played and am not super hyped about playing the Mass Effect games(or any wRPG for that matter).

But I cried a long time ago to games with character deaths. Games like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV made me cry heavily. And for more recent examples, I cried pretty hard during Tales of the Abyss.

That's a very unfair start to your comment. I simply forgot to put in a spoiler tag, and as i haven't posted on these forums in well over a year before this point, i think that my mistake could be forgiven. I did change my post when informed of my error.

As for discussion, the title itself is a discussion point perhaps?

Crying at a scene in a video game is/was a new experience for me.

Also, perhaps others would be open to discuss their thoughts and feelings about either the topic of emotional response to video games, or to that scene in particular?

I feel it is your comment that has no value to this thread.
