Hey, guys. I made a post a while back explaining a problem I had with my Nintendo 64. Basically, the system couldn't play Majora's Mask correctly. It wouldn't respond to my controller at times, which made it basically impossible to play. After working with it and cleaning it, I just decided to give in and bought a new copy. I got home, put it in, and had the exact same problem with it. The system plays any other game I want, but for some reason this one doesn't work. It even plays other games that needed the memory expansion, like Donkey Kong 64, but this ONE GAME doesn't work. Can anyone help me out here?

..I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say it's a controller problem.

Like, your controller might not be making good contact, and so it won't respond sometimes. (similar to when your mouse buttons wear out)

The other answer may be due to framerate, MM has many slowdowns in it, and if you press a button during a short blip (timed properly) the button press will not register. It essentially skips over it.

Weird. It might be a controller problem. I work at a vintage video game shop and we've had a few controllers here and there that do strange things like this. So far, we have had an NES controller that reset the console whenever a button was pushed, a PS2 controller that makes a number of buttons go turbo all at once, and a Gamecube controller that somehow disables the mechanisms for reading discs completely whenever it is plugged into a console. There are probably a few more that I'm forgetting though.

Try a different controller, and if you have a cleaning kit, clean the pins in the system too, just in case. DON'T BLOW IN THE MACHINE - the moisture from your mouth can corrode the pins.

Going out on a limb here, but the N64 is really friggin' old now :D

Maybe the console is showing wear and tear?

I think your cart's probably messed up. Mine works perfectly fine with a controller so heavily afflicted by Mario Party Syndrome you couldn't tell the joystick actually used to work.

Unlikely, I've cleaned and sold hundreds of used N64s, they are a very hard system to break. I've had more than a few that had cola spilled all over them that I fixed and sold. The Expansion Pack/RAM is clearly working if it boots up other games that require it. Likely the pins in the system need to be cleaned, or the controller is doing something odd.
