A question about headphones

Recently I have been looking into buying a relatively cheap pair of proper headphones as the earphones I got with my iPod a few months ago seem to be lacking somewhat in most respects.

After looking around the interwebs for a few days I think I've settled on Skullcandy Lowriders. But the reviews all said it was lacking bass which put me off until I realised that my little earphones are probably lacking bass as well. So I was wondering if any of you could give me an idea of how much bass-ier the Lowriders would be

I also wouldn't mind any suggestions for other headphones that I could look into as I figure you're probably quite a diverse group so if one set turns up a lot then I know they'll be pretty good. Although try and keep the price within the $40-60 dollar range or about £30-50 if you're a limey like me!

Thanks

Don't touch skullcandy, the sound quality of their products is terrible. iPod headphones are also pretty crap.

If you want buds that are high quality but affordable, go with Sennheiser. I borrowed some of my Dad's a while back and I was blown away by the quality (I previously used Skullcandy).

Haven't looked back since.

Now, I don't actually remember how much my headphones cost, but I have a logitech headset and I can hear every sound as if I was there.

Hope that helps.

Do you prefer over ear headphones or earbuds? I have a pair of active noise-cancelling Klipsch earbuds I got for 80 bucks and they are fantastic.

Not very. They're also really uncomfortable if you wear glasses. Since you're plugging them into an iPod, headphone choice really doesn't matter, as it's going to sound the same anyway.
Thankfully I don't really wear my glasses that much anymore
Plus I would have thought that it would have some impact on sound quality- particularly as I listen to a lot of bass heavy music at the moment. Not that I know anything at all about headphones

I've had a pair of Sony earphones for the past couple years and their pretty good quality, and they only cost between ten and fifteen dollars. I only use them with my ipod so I don't know if they're good quality for using with computer speakers or not.

The iPod headphones I have are actually better than most of my other pairs, the only pair that beats them is a $150 pair of Sony studio headphones. Skullcandy headphones have always been kind of uncomfortable to me, and Ephraim J. Witchwood up there is correct, there isn't going to be much variation in sound if you're using an iPod.

I'll back up the "Sennheiser aren't bad" sentiment, certainly. Sony's much the same, and you avoid (mostly) the slightly odd wire configuration (one earphone on a slightly longer wire than the other, unadjustable).

Okay, I'm not a genius, but here's what I know:

Skullcandy really aren't that good. They're more fashion accessories than hardcore sound devices.
Sennheiser do great kit, but they can be pretty pricey; the same goes for AKG stuff.

I've had some experience with Sony, and they were pretty good.

But yeah, I advise against Skullcandies. Google is your friend though; just search 'best headphones for £50' xD.
Sad news is, for that money you're not gonna get anything too good. :(.

And these capchas are so damn hard to read:mad:.

Edit: actually yeah, that's a good point; iPod's so have a certain quality of sound output.
Sounds weird, I know, but it's true.

If you're serious about music, may I recommend a Creative Zen X-fi;D
I guess that's another debate entirely, though><.

I have always used £1 headphones from Poundland/an equivalent. (Sometimes 3 for a pound, if I'm feeling REALLY cheap). Honestly, I don't notice any real difference with the more expensive ones.

Hmm. Well the fact that it makes little difference is a little depressing, although it does make my life easier I guess.

And I did already know Skullcandy that more about fashion than sound quality. But if it all sounds the same then there isn't really a problem is there? :D

Try these. They work perfectly well and don't make a hole in your wallet the size of Plymouth Sound.

I use the ILuv headphones. They work fine for me, and keep other people from bothering me while I'm listening.

I got a pair of cans from sony that sound amazing, very much to the point that I was noticing new qualities in songs that have been my favorites for a long time. I still tend to use a pair of ear buds (oddly $15 sony ones were the latest purchase, but buds always break) for most of the time because being in your own world isn't the best course when traversing the real world.

Quality = pair of cans. http://www.promediaklipsch.com/wp-content/uploads/monkey-with-headphones.jpg

ease of use, cheap buds.

If you're looking for a decent pair of cheap over-ear headphones I would recommend Logitech. I've had the same pair of headphones for nearly four years now, they hit Mids and Highs pretty well, but they do lack in bass. However, for a 35$ price tag they've been durable, and provide decent quality as well.
