A question about time travel

So you are walking down the road, and you are greeted by yourself, who has travelled back 10 years to talk to you.

You carry on, and part ways. Now 10 years later, you are supposed to go back 10 years and talk to yourself, 10 years ago.

What happens if you don't go back? Do the events of meeting your past self cease to exist?

IMO, there are 2 things about time travel...

Either you don't have a choice in the matter, trying to avoid your fate only seals it.
Or, the "you" you met wasn't you from your universe, it was a "you" from a parallel universe. And, since you're not part of that universe, it doesn't matter whether or not you travel to another universe as undoubtedly there was one universe where the encounter never happened.

What's the point of a Moneyverse? If money is so abundant doesn't that make it essentially worthless? Unless you can take it to another universe I suppose... by I'm using Infinity Gauntlet rules! Things unique to a universe don't work in other universes!

IIRC, Einstein theorized that you can travel backwards in time if you can move faster than the speed of light.

I can't be bothered to go back 10 years, the easiest thing to do is go back five minutes and tell myself five minutes ago to travel back 10 years to greet myself so I can travel back 10 years later.
