A question that may earn me some scorn

So i'm trying to play computer games and use my PS3 controller to do so, I'm aware this makes me some sort of interspecies bastard child between the Console and Computer Gamers....but i'll bravely press on.

My Controller was accepted by my computer, a driver was installed but i'm really not sure where to go from there....is there more to be done? Or should this simply work and take the place of my mouse?

Or does it depend on the Game i'm trying to play....it's new territory for me so i'm a little lost.

I don't see why you're a bastard child, gamepads are widely used.
Anyway, most games that can use gamepads have an "enable gamepad" option. For myself, I just plug it in, enable it, bish bash bosh, done.
