A quite spoiler-filled theory on The Avengers

I just had to bring this up somewhere, and just to be safe I'm spoiler tagging the rest of the post.

Okay, so if you're reading this you've probably seen the movie. You know that Loki had this vaguely cosmic staff, which when he touched it to peoples chest-heart basically mind controlled them.

What I was thinking is, given that Thanos is shown in the mid-credits ending, and that the staff was glowing blue-ish ... it could be perhaps sybolizing the "Mind gem" of the Infinity gems.

Really one of the neat things I loved in Avengers is how it very subtly followed up on things from other movies, so maybe I'm now looking for the subtle things that could be big later.

I honestly think it'd be an interesting thing if the following 'big' Marvel movies, Cap 2, Thor 2 & such perhaps use some subtle themes related to the gems (Time, Reality, Soul, Space & Power) and then for an Avengers 2 (or 3 depending on how they want to structure things) have it all come together as "Yeah, you know these little things you noticed & had this level of power? Thanos has ALL of them, and combined they're MORE powerful.

It'd be a subtle, relatively easy way to inform the non-comic fans of just what the Infinity Gauntlet IS and how big a threat it is... without having a big chunk of exposition anywhere in the films themselves.

So... viable theory? Or am I like a conspiracy theorist connecting dots that don't belong together?

Its pretty much inevitable at this point. You can't have Thanos without the Infinity Gauntlet, that's pretty much his entire schtick.

That was probably the Mind Gem. Didn't think of that before, but it would make a lot of sense.

What they should do with the other gems is have one appear in each of the new movies, but in Thor 2 they should have Thanos stealing the Infinity Gauntlet, either in the film itself or in an after-credits scene, and in Captain America 2 have Maria Hill reporting an infiltration on the SHIELD Helicarrier but nothing being stolen from what she can gather...but in fact, the Mind gem has been stolen from the staff. Have a gem a film, and then in Avengers 2, have the Avengers trying to stop Thanos from claiming the gems.

It might sound crap, but it makes sense...sorta.

I have heard this theory before and I think it is quite possible. Honestly I hope they fight another villain in 2 with Thanos pulling strings in the background and then have him show up as the big bad in Avengers 3. I want Ultron or Kang for 2!

Interesting theory. Now I think about it what happen to the staff when it was put into the cube? Did it get destory except for the gem itself and is it still on Earth?

I watched the movie last night at the cinema, fucking fantastic.
I don't know much for the comics, I've never read a comic in my life, if I had the money to by them I would.

I stayed to the mid credits (before the rolling credits) because I knew that there would be an extra little snippet. I laughed a bit when everybody was leaving the theatre room unknowing of the extra teaser thing .

After reading Movie Bob's article with the infinity gauntlet I suddenly got REALLY exited for the next marvel movies .

My favourite Avenger in Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. does an awesome job as Tony Stark and Iron Man.
