I had only discovered the wonders of TF2 this year. Only a handful of months ago, really.
Like many, I fell in love with the game and it's honestly one of my favorites. Thusly, I have missed a lot of discussion over it - so I am asking!

1.) What is your favorite and least favorite class and why?

2.) Do you think one class is particularly over or under powered?

3.) What's your proudest, happiest, or coolest moment in game?

My answers:
- I play most as a Medic or Spy, while I occasionally play Engineer as well. I've usually preferred support roles in most multiplayer games - Medic and Engineer help fulfill those roles while I enjoy Spy just to be a prick.
- I don't think that any particular class is overpowered per se, but I know that I am more often killed by Soldiers than anything else... I also think the scout's bat should induce a little more damage. I'd prefer to take people down in 2 or 3 hits instead of the 4-5 I seem to be having fun with.
- When I discovered you could kill people with taunts, I ran with it. I loved sneaking up behind snipers as an engineer and breaking guitars over their heads. The first time it happened, a demoman was charging me while I fence/stabbed him as a Spy.

1) I love to play Engi, Demoman, Soldier and Medic for pushes/support and Spy I kinda like, I like all the classes but I mostly like to play roles that allow me to dish out damage.

2)I sometimes see Demo/Soldier being overpowered sometimes, especially the soldiers rocket that allows multiple to be dished out at one time or the laser rocket with the overcharge that can disable the engis turret from afar which means I'd either have to repair the turret from any more damage or run up to the soldier with my shotgun/pistol and risk getting destroyed up close since I can't kill him from afar.

I also find the Medic's vaccinator a bit op at times since I;ve seen two medics sporting it once and they managed to wipe out my team multiple times with one having anti bullet and anti explosive protection.

3) happiest moment is when I'm engi and nest up with a few other engis and I feel happy when we're able to hold down a nest without many issues and still be able to dish out our own damage.

1. My favorite class is the Spy. It's so much fun to freak out the enemy team, backstabbing people left and right and slipping away without being caught. I'm not the best Spy player by a mile but if I'm doing well I'll be enjoying myself more than any other class. My least favorite classes are the Heavy and Engineer, tied. I prefer to play classes in games that don't get damaged a lot or are highly agile and of course Heavy is the opposite of what I want. There's also the fact that Heavy relies on medics too much, even with the Sandvich. I also don't like getting sniped and backstabbed over and over again, or get outmaneuvered by Scouts. I also don't like vanilla Engineer. I get annoyed having to constantly watch over my buildings. I leave my Sentry for one second to pick up ammo and it gets sapped or a Demoman plants stickies near it. I like playing Gunslinger Engie though, which is why I specified vanilla Engineer. Gunslinger Engineer annoys a lot of people but I like the fact that I can be aggressive with my Sentry placement rather than trying to find the perfect spot.

2. Soldier is definitely the most OP class in the game. He's strongest in the most categories, and a good Soldier will absolutely wipe the floor with most teams. His low mobility is countered by his amazing Rocket Jump ability, allowing him to get a crucial height advantage that even the Scout has trouble finding. He doesn't require as much setup or careful aim as the Demoman yet can do just as much damage as him. You don't even need to aim at your enemy unless you're using the Direct Hit, just aim at the floor around them and you'll do just as much damage. 4 rockets is more than enough to kill anyone at most ranges, and they're excellent in most scenarios. The Shotgun is a basic weapon but great for the Soldier as it allows him to take down pesky Scouts or follow up a Rocket that launches someone into the air. Many a scout has fallen to my Reserve Shooter, custom named "Fly Swatter".

3. My proudest moment is when I played Spy on KOTH_Harvest a few months ago. I was using the invisibility watch, Spy-Cicle, and L'etranger, and I was just an assassin. I always chose the perfect time to backstab, killing entire groups before they could even reach the main capture point. I was at the top of the scoreboard by a huge margin of points, and their entire team was scrambling trying to kill me. They had 4 Pyros spychecking constantly, and yet I managed to run circles around them and even backstab them. I was doing all kinds of crazy stabs, like jumping off the roof of the capture point building and backstabbing people trying to capture/defend, jumping from the top of a staircase behind people running up it and backstabbing them, and leading people around corners only to sidestab them as they passed. Shit was crazy, man.

1) Favorite class is definitely Demoman. I've always been good at aiming my grenades in any FPS game I've ever played, so naturally I gravitate towards the one class in TF2 that is built entirely around them. Also, being able to deal insane damage and wipe out chunks of a team at once with the right sticky trap is satisfying.

In the early days of TF2, when maps were scant and no one really mastered the game yet, I remember there being HUGE amounts of engineer players. Which was disastrous in small confined maps with nothing but chokepoints such as Dustbowl. This was when I really began to main Demoman to wipe out sentry nests.

Beyond that, I also play Pyro/Soldier/Engineer a whole bunch. Airblasting is awesome. Rocket jumping is excellent. And I love keeping my team supported with health, ammo, teleports and a sentry gun watching their backs.

2) ehh I wouldn't say so. I'd say every class is very closely matched in terms of their raw power. The situational classes like Spies and Snipers could be considered UP if the conditions aren't favorable to their play (too many people in a tiny map with tons of pyro players really cripples a spy. Tiny maps in general aren't very favorable for snipers, although the Huntsman fixes this somewhat). It's been awhile since I played, but I'd say Pyros are probably UP considered how vulnerable they are once you are outside of their range. And even in range with a pyro almost, every class has weapons with damage ramp-up, so you could still suffer massive damage/die very quickly from other combat classes.

OP, I'd say probably a Soldier because of their sheer versatility. Demoman, because of their insanely high damage output. Scout, in the hands of the right player, has a sky-high skill ceiling.

Heavies now can be pretty OP too. although this may just be me thinking back to the early days of TF2. Now, Heavies received a slew of buffs that have now made them really fucking powerful, far moreso than they were in the early days when they had so many weaknesses.

3) pl_goldrush 3 on Red.

I had a fairly good team, and I was closely communicating with a friend via Skype at the time. Red was putting up a good fight, but Blu was just ever so slightly better than us and won the first two maps. They had captured the first point and pushed us to our second point. Our team had set up a few sentry nests and were defending as hard as we could, but the Blu bastards kept throwing ubers at us. I was playing Soldier and my friend was a Medic with a fully charged Kritz.

Our defenses were being beaten to hell. And Blu then threw 2 ubers at us, a heavy and a demoman flanked by the full force of their entire team flying at us. At this point, rather than facing the full force of their team and ubers. I told my friend to hang back and wait, we retreated into the side walkway that overlooks the hole that drops down to dry ravine in front of the final point.

The ubers pushed forward and absolutely wrecked our sentry nests, the rest of their team took out the stragglers on our side that remained. Our entire team was dead, save for me and my friend. And then their entire team crowded around the cart and rushed it forward to the empty point. I waited and waited, until I saw the cart inching towards the point, surrounded by their entire team of pyros, scouts, soldiers, demos, heavies, engineers, and medics. As soon as I saw the cart, I shouted to my friend "Hit it!!!". He activated the kritz, I jumped out above the cart, aiming down at the cart, and launched a single rocket, and killed the entire fucking team in one shot. Boom, baby!

This ended up stuffing their entire offensive charge, and stopped the cart. My team respawned, came back and rebuilt the sentry nests and established a firm foothold. It was too late for Blu to get together again for another wreckingball push after we wiped them out. We held out for the rest of the match, and Red won. Most satisfying kritz ever! :D

1. I like the Pyro because (s)he's fast, powerful, and can disrupt even groups of enemies too large to beat. And on maps with bottomless pits, secondary makes the Pyro an unholy terror.

2. All the classes are good, but some maps certainly favor some classes more than others. In one with narrow corridors, the scout loses much of his advantage, while wide open spaces make the sniper way more viable. Lots of chokepoints punish spies and reward engies, that kind of thing.

3. I managed to rack up like half the sniper achievements in one flawless murder streak. Guys kept walking up to this window to shoot at my team and I just kept shooting them. I got about 16 kills without moving, then a spy ganked me, blew all our dispensers, and cost us the match. But it was a victory FOR ME.

1.) My favorite is the Heavy. I like not being too dependent on others doing their jobs properly, as I can destroy everything if I use correct tactics and I also like the killstreaks I'm able to get with the Heavy. My current least favorite (which changes over time) is the Pyro. It just doesn't feel as empowering or as interesting as other classes.

2.) I think the game is balanced well enough.

3.) Too many great moments to pick just one. I have to say that my best were moments in which I played as a Heavy with my girlfriend as a medic. By cooperating we manage to get much better results and it's always great to share fun moments with someone else.

I like playing the engie, so much support to be offered but mah gawd do spies piss me off! Every time I get ANYTHING set up, a spy is there to fuck it up!

I know spy takes a lot of skill to use properly but fuck me is that class OP!

I'd like a match or two where it's like capture the flag, both teams wanting to win, both are fortified and entrenched and both are just crashing into each other constantly!

People trying all the tricks in the book (staying REALLY far back to snipe, then going the polar opposite and going the heavy trying to get an Uber) but that can't happen 'cos spies always start sapping and back stabbing.

My best moment is going as a heavy (which I rarely do) and mowing people down like a crazed lunatic, I wasn't even uber'd! I bet I only killed 3 or 4 people but I for a short time I felt like a god.

1.) What is your favorite and least favorite class and why?
Favorite: Scout. I like moving fast and providing distractions. One of my favorite things to do is, right when the gate opens at the start of the round, bolt past all the firefights, get close to the enemy spawn, then double back and shoot half the enemy team in the back. Plus, if two soldiers are focused on trying to kill me, they're not focused on keeping their point safe from my team.

Least favorite would probably be spy. I suck at it, and people on both sides are more than willing to call out a bad spy, which discourages me from practicing. Plus, I hate getting backstabbed myself. Why spread frustration?

2.) Do you think one class is particularly over or under powered?
The only thing that springs to mind are Phlog pyros. I still can't believe they put in a weapon that encourages W+M1-ing.

It's also super frustrating when a team has four engies build a bunch of sentries and just kind of hang out. Taking those down requires more teamwork than you're likely to see a team of 8-16 strangers display. It's why I almost never play CTF or CP_Steel. Those games are just "Build a bunch of sentries and run out the clock."

3.) What's your proudest, happiest, or coolest moment in game?
Getting accused of hacking is always nice. There was also a time where, as a demoman, I launched a grenade in the air and one at someone's feet. The one at their feet went off and sent them flying up in the air, right in the path of the other grenade. I wish I saved a replay of that.

It's also fun when both teams throw down their guns, put aside their differences, and have a conga party. Until someone ruins it and the fighting starts back up.

1.) What is your favorite and least favorite class and why?

Favorite is Sniper by a long shot. Least favorite to play is Engineer, least favorite in general would be Heavy.

2.) Do you think one class is particularly over or under powered?

I... can't think of anything, anyone with a decent amount of skill can turn any class into the most glorified pubstomping ever, and all weak points of a class are covered by weapons or a class being good enough at its roles.

3.) What's your proudest, happiest, or coolest moment in game?

A few times where I've dominated more than half a pub. I do it very consistently as Sniper, sometimes I switch to Scout or Demoknight, but I think my favorite was as Fat Scout, KGB + Shotgun and getting something like five dominations.

EDIT: Oh, why I chose what I did for number one...

I like Sniper because I'm a huge pubstomper. Sniper can reliably kill any class in one shot with little danger to itself, has a reliable destruction capability, and Jarate. There aren't many situations I switch off Sniper because I'm not getting a job done, I switch usually because I want to move to a different class.

Hate Engineer because for all the resource management you put into buildings and strategically placing them as this fragile class, it's just part of the Engineer life if some Direct Hit turns the corner and pops all your buildings down without you being able to do anything. And all that pressure is put on you for defense when defense breaking is just a part of the day. No thanks. Plus I feel disconnected from the game when all my damage is through a Sentry. And I don't like the Gunslinger because I hate it when it's used against me.

Not a fan of Heavy because a lot of his roles besides being a damage sponge and team support can be done just as well and faster by other classes.

1. Most favorite is easily the Heavy, with a mini-sentry Engie being a close second. Main reason is just because I'm really good as Heavy and know how to/how not to play well. Tearing through the entire enemy team with a pocket medic on Payload is more fun then most games besides TF2 can provide.
Least favorite is the Demoman, and my worst class is the Spy. I hate Demoman because he's just really easy to do well as when all you have to do is spam stickeys, and on certain maps cough Dustbowl cough he's downright OP. With Spy I'm just flatout terrible. A lot of small things you need to know to do really well and I've just never dedicated the time to learning them, nor do I feel like it.
There's also this little picture which describes another reason why I don't like Demomen.

2. Demoman is too cheap and Dead Ringers make being a really annoying and cheap Spy way too easy. Besides that, there aren't really any weapons/classes that are particually over/underpowered. The Tomislav could use a boost I guess since I never see anyone use it.

3. Dominated 8/10 players on an enemy team with a mini-sentry Engineer, more than once even. That's always fun. I've also had people try to ban/kick me due to claims that I was hacked while doing really well as Heavy. Going on massive killstreaks as Heavy is always a joy, and playing TF2 with a bunch of friends is also some of the most fun I've had with videogames. It's just unfortunate that getting a group together doesn't happen often.
Fucking around with the Conga taunt has also led to some good times, as has not taking the game seriously and just being an asshat in endless 2fort maps.

1. Favorite is medic, always needed on the team and pretty useful all around. Least favorite is scout, I can't play him properly, keep missing.
2. Nope, they all seem fine to me. It's a rock paper scissors thing.
3. When I killed around 6 enemies in the sewers of 2fort. I was playing as spy and I was hiding in that little corner next to the stairs leading from base to sewers. Poor bastards didn't stand a chance.
Another time was when I was playing ZombieFortress mod, me and another medic were the last ones standing and we managed to run out the timer and win by uberchaining for about 30 seconds, shit was intense.

I popped in here for a question of my own.

See, I've wanted to try TF2 for quite some time now, but the hostile reactions towards F2P players were really off-putting. I know it's been, like, 3 years, but has the community gotten better about that?

It probably depends on the server, but i haven't even seen the mention of F2P for a good while now. I think most people just keep to themselves unless you play on a more competitive server, especially since there are probably 100 Valve Servers where no one says a thing now.

1- Sniper, Scout, Medic, Pyro as my favorites. I never get to play Sniper a lot because if I see more than two of them I don't pick him, Scout/Pyro can be shut out on a lot of maps but medic is always in demand and needed and everyone loves a good ubermenshe.

2- I would say Soldier/Demo man can feel pretty OP if you are fighting them head on as any other class, and Engineers can feel insurmountable if your team is stupid. Given that Soldier/Demoman are intended to be back bone combat classes (ie the Soldier being.. well the Soldier, and Demoman being the Artillery), this is not as bad as you'd think.

3- Awesomest moment was when I wound up being a minor TF2 youtube celebrity's personal medic for a pyro kill spree where he demolished the entire enemy team and we carried the game like it had handles. The stars aligned, with me getting to him and keeping him from death just in time, and an uber charge going up at the exact right time it needed to be and the two of us laying waste, great damn game. Was even better when I found the youtube recording from his POV of it :) .

EDIT: second awesomest was at a university LAN party where I unleashed the pyro beast and proceeded to demolish everyone, to the lamentations of half the room. Why? Because I was dicking around as sniper (having an admitedly bad game) and got spy knifed, and decided to stop messing around.

1) I try to play all classes or the game gets boring otherwise. However, I really quite like playing defence and sitting on the point as heavy, or building a really good engi nest, or going Pyro and defending a fellow team-mates nest.

2) Not a particularly a class per se, but Baby Face Blaster scouts can fuck off to another universe and then fuck off some more. The Eyelander was also already irritating enough without the fucking Tide Turner making it even more of a nuisance.

3) Never had a memorable 'epic moment' so to speak, just lots of little, yet crucial victories. Well I suppose inciting full-server conga parties might count for something.

Having joined it this year, I would like to say that with the infrequent occasion, the TF2 community is actually quite cooperative and supporting. Sure, there are assholes here and there, but every community has them. I feel pretty welcome in the TF2 community.

1) I have about 12 hours as a spy, 14 hours as a solider, 10 hours as a scout, 22 hours as Demo, 34 hours as Heavy...

198 HOURS as Engineer. Can you guess my favorite class?

2) The game is fairly balanced right now, honestly. Scout could use a little love, Soldier a little less but it's all good.

3) Single-handedly holding a point for 10 straight minutes with my turret. Ended up with 34 kills, and they never took Point A, let alone B.

See that's the thing that pisses me off about Spies on TF", the moment they see an Engi they know he's to become easy prey and top priority but then you've got a medic with an uber almost ready to charge and a Demo man ready to set up stickies or a soldier ready to buff his team and yet the Spy chooses the Engi and it drives me mad playing as one and having my stuff repeatedly sapped and no one around me cares to kill him, that boosts the Spy's determination to just come back and do it all over again because no one Spy checks properly and allows him past the front line.

It's almost the same when you play Medic, everyone targets the medic because he can heal people yet they won't focus on the even bigger threat of facing multiple heavies, demomen and Soldiers or Scouts, if they fail to kill the medic it;s because they chose their priorities completely wrong, whenever I see a medic surrounded by multiple foes I'll choose the foes because the medic cannot heal and save them all and if I whittle them down to one then I will kill the medic and most chances I've managed that, even as a Spy.

I just really hate how people choose the easiest target because it's so obvious and people fall for it like a poor trope.

1a. *points to avatar* though I try to adapt to keep the team balanced and can go scout, engie, or medic..
1b. I hate sniper because there is a surplus of them,as for least favorite to play its heavy (his speed annoys me)

2. nobody i think for the most part the classes have a bit of a nice rock paper scissors thing going.. there are some weapons that might need slight tweaks though...

3. the first time I got someone to ragequit,
It was a spy who I managed to dominate and then some he began cursing and calling me a hacker over chat the rest of the server told him to shut it and that he was just mad that I wasn't a M+W1 noob he was used to, he then cursed that we were all against him and rage quit.
(it still makes me warm and fuzzy as someone who in the real world has bad self esteem issues having my skills affirmed by anyone makes me so happy :3 ~<3)

1) My favourite class is the pyro but I also enjoy playing the heavy and the engineer. I switch depending on how the game is progressing. For me, the pyro is a versatile class. Under the right conditions and with adequate skill you can ambush enemies, defend sentries and engis or hunt spies. And the backblast function on the flametrhower is just a joy to use : ). Least favorite is the medic, followed closely by the spy. I never took the time to get the hang on their playstyle.

2) Not really, I find the game balanced for the most part.

3) So many moments : ). I especially like when I backclast a crocket into the entire enemy team in a packed corridor. Giblet rain!
