What caused the first man to look at another man and stab his face off? Why did he do it? Why have we not changed out of it?

This is not a whiny deppresives question. This is a genuine question. Why? What? When? How?

When Cain beat Abel to death it was out of jealousy. Lesser men find that if you face a problem, the only way to solution to said problem is removal; and not compromise.

But why do they feel that? Get to the root of the question. Get deeper. Dig deeper. Whatever.

We kill because we can. Perhaps the early days of mankind - filled with constant hardships and cave bears - made us all incorrigible bastards on the inside. That at least kinda covers why we burn the world around us... some sort of instinctual revenge.

Of course, people don't need reasons to kill each other. We make up the reasons after the deed is done to externally blame something beyond our control. We have the power to turn away from instinct, most times we don't want to though. I wonder whether or not human nature is really the fight against instinct.

Some people feel like they have no options, others simply do not care. People who are sociopaths can view themselves as the only significant thing in the universe so they wouldn't feel too caught up about killing if they had the right motivation.

They try to find the easiest way to solve a problem, and as rednok said moval is very easy.

People do stupid shit, both implusive, hormon-driven, emotionally driven actions as well as entirely concious decisions.

There are way too many factors playing in on the whole thing to give a concrete answer, dear, people are complex creatures.

There are really no right answers.

They are bad people. Idk, that's all I can say really. Bad people do bad things. Good people are not ment to understand why bad people do things, just that they are bad.

Because God accepted Abel's offering in a wholly remarkable way, while Cain's was left untouched. Ergo confusion ("Why was my brother's gift accepted but not mine?"), paranoia (Does God favor my brother over me?), jealousy (My gift should be accepted too!), and jealousy, as they say, will drive you mad.

Hmm, lets look. Pragmatism? They decide to stab the face off a dude who has a contagious illness?
Sociopathy? One dude just didn't give a shit about life (maybe the above pragmatism was killing said sociopath)
Dehuminization, racism? The people from that tribe/culture/relgion weren't *real* people, they don't count. It's most humane to butcher them.

Edit: I didn't consider passion crime in this but it deserves a mention.

Jealousy, see the stuff about Cain and Able mentioned above.
Anger, you have a fight about something, who gets a shiny gold piece or something, tempers fray, stabbing occurs.

The trouble with digging deeper at this point is that you already put us at ancient theology and lore. Where do you go from there?

We haven't changed out of it because it's not in our nature, or rather in life's nature. Humans are a product of evolution, and the one defining fact about evolution is that it's a fight for survival, with the winner continuing to exist. And in truth, it's something that we need. The universe is a very dangerous place, and without those survival instincts that were bred by millions upon millions of years od beating the competition (whoever they are), we wouldn't likely have made it to this point in our existence. So I ask you, would you change the very nature of yourself, remove the part that protects you, empowers you, and defines you?

The broadest possible answer is a feeling of desire that permeates the majority of mankind.

It's completely and utterly random.

... this is kind of a ridiculous question if you stop to think about it for a second. Long before humans were killing each other, our ape-like ancestors were killing each other. And long before our ape-like ancestors were killing each other, their... whatever kind of ancestors they had... ... they were killing each other.

Killing each other is something that's been around for much longer than the human species. It's really kind of arrogant to assume we were the first, that we had some specific reason for it. It's been in our genes even before our specific genes came to be. In fact, if you think about it, the number of us that kill each other is probably significantly less than it is in our ape-like ancestors, or current ape relatives. We didn't start the problem, in fact, we're kind of the only species (that we know of) that has taken a step towards trying to fix the problem.

It makes everything much more interesting.

Nothing cures boredom like someone having their face stabbed off.

Because were people, we have flaws, we aren't perfect, dig?

Also, we are mamals, so murder is common among us because of animal instincts.
