Ah, Sonic Adventure 1. What a game that was, eh? Fully 3D gameplay, Adventure Worlds to allow you to go to the next level, being able to play as a whole bunch of characters...
Sure, it had its few share of glitches and the voice-acting was what you could call laughably bad, but we didn't mind.
I mean, it was so popular that it deemed a sequel. Remember?

Again, fully 3D exploration, gameplay was a little more linear, I'll admit. Voice-acting had improved somewhat.. sure, like its predecessor, it had its bugs and such [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be9-JA0-agw].. but we didn't mind; the story's epicness made up for it (I mean, can you get more epic than the whole world about to be destroyed?)

Now it begs the question... if only we had a Sonic game that had similar mechanics as Sonic Adventure 1 with the fully 3D environments and huge levels, being able to play as multiple characters, and has the story with the same amount of epic as Sonic Adventure 2.. only with the graphics of this console generation's consoles?

...Oh wait. We did, didn't we? [http://tinyurl.com/ppd47m]

Next time someone bitches about "how sonic should be in 2d", remember: more than one fully 3D Sonic game just like Sonic 06 has worked in the past. Just because one didn't work doesn't mean the whole concept doesn't.
For comparison, let's go with, oh, I dunno, Mario; if you liked Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, but hated Super Mario Galaxy, would it ruin the whole "Super Mario 64 concept" for you? I don't think so.

(Just as a clarification: I actually bought Sonic 06 a few months ago, knowing that it wouldn't be as "spectacular" as it was going to be. And you know what, I actually enjoy playing it. Now, I'm not going to hate you if you don't like the game seeing as around 80% of those who've played it don't like it. But basing that on your belief that "sonic should be in 2d and he should be the only playable character lolz" is pure ignorance.
Also, I liked the 2D MegaDrive games as well.. but I preferred playing as Tails in Sonic 2, 3 and 3&K.
Also also, I'm simply a fan of the Sonic series; not a fanboy. For example, I thought Sonic and the Secret Rings wasn't upto scratch, but it didn't ruin the series for me.)

Sonic Ad1 was okay. the 2nd wasnt. And from there on its been buckets of mediocrety and crap.

Let Sonic die. Or do a complete reboot. Sonic has no place for this generation while SEGA/Sonic Team is running the Sonic franchise.

You know why Super Mario still remains good(yes good) after all these years?

Cause Miyamoto is still on the damn company and so is most of the Super Mario team that started with Super Mario Bros.! Theres barely anyone from the original Sonic Team left, that remenbers what the hell was Sonic about.

P.S Sonic doesnt work on the 3D realm. End of story. Its a guy that runs fast.

Sonic CAN work in 3D but sonic has been shit for so long now that no one cares anymore. They all just assume it can't work and never will. Sonic's dead to us because we want to kill him now.

Sonic is int he same boat as Megaman in my opinion. Only the original 2D games were good.

However, that doesn't mean they can just made a new 2D sonic game. The mechanics of the original Sonic games are outdated. There's only so much you can do with the original formula and still produce new games.

In other words, Sonic needs to die. He needs to end before there are so many bad games that the quality of the original games have completley died out.

Also Sonic could work in 3D. However, the people who make Sonic games can't design a good game. Even if they made a 2D game it would suck. So unless the current Sonic team dies in a fire, there will never be a good 3D sonic game.

I have no idea why SEGA haven't tried a high speed, Klonoa style 2.5-D Sonic game. Seems to me that might actually have half a chance of working.

I don't understand why people would want Sonic to die. Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 were fine games, and a valid reason to get a Dreamcast. Now I know recent Sonic games haven't been as big and exciting as their predecessors, but let the rest of us have fun with them (because believe it or not, it's more than possible) rather than wish it speedy death.

I think everyone's main problem with 3D Sonic, or just Sonic as a whole, is that it hasn't worked multiple times, not just once. Let's have a look:

Shadow the Hedgehog
Sonic Riders
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic and the Secret Rings
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
Sonic Unleashed
Sonic and the Black Knight

Don't get me wrong, I like Sonic, but it seems like Sega doesn't know what to do anymore. That's why I think people want him gone. They made great games in 2d, but 3d doesn't seem to be their specialty. Most people want him dead not only because of the way it seems Sega is taking the franchise, but they're tired of seeing such an awesome character get beat to death by bad games over and over.
