Well, it finally happened. I always wanted to watch an episode of MLP:FiM and I decided to try it out. A few hours later, I'm on episode 7. I can see why people like this show. Good characters, funny plotlines, ironically edutainment that works, vague adult innuendos or possible allegories. What more could you want?

So, who wants to share their story of their trip?

I noticed all the pony threads we had here last year, and decided to see what all the fuss was about (this was before I joined the escapist, back when I was just lurking here).
Before I knew it, I'd watched all of season 1.

If anyone else is genuinely interested in getting into the show, just follow this link . . .

Scroll down to page 2 of that document, and click the episode titles to get the the youtube videos of each episode.
Yeah, I remember when I first started lurking the forums, I spotted so many pony avatars and was completely confused. Then, the pony topics started popping up. Cue the Pony Outbreak of 2011. The rage threads. The discussion threads. The flame wars. So confusing. I never understood it really, at first. I thought it was a bit strange and that was it. After watching it, the Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home background from Faust just emanated intensely. It had her written all over it and it works.

Pinkie Pie, by the way.

Went to youtube. Watched 3 1/2 episodes and realized it's a kids show aimed primarily at young women.

Did not like.

I heard about it through this site, but I never watched it. I recalled that I had heard they were doing a reboot, and since I liked the show when I was five, I remember wanting to watch it, but I never got around to it. Just didn't seem worth it, especially since I don't get The Hub.

However, one day VGcats posted a comic about the show saying how good it was. He also posted links and said that people really should check it out. I shrugged and thought, "Okay, if this guy says it's worth it, I'll look into it."

I know have over two dozen of those little mini ponies sitting in front of my TV, as well as the Mane Six from McDonald's. I think I have a problem... :)

Saw that people made posts about it and had pony avatars here...but that did not really get my interest in any way.....I just kinda shrugged it off as something that the internet loved for some reason (along with cats...).

Then I saw that the first season was on Netflix and decided to give it a look-see.....several months later here I am. XD

Speaking of figures, I for some reason got inspired to test it out because I found out chuggaaconroy is a brony with two shelves full of ponies. And I have joined the herd.

It was February of 2011. I had come across several mentions of the show across the internet. At first I thought it was just a joke, then after a while I realized it was legit.

Fast forward about a week and I watched my first fanmade video, which piqued my curiosity. After some hesitation, I finally watched the first episode. Thought it was alright, but nothing super special, but decided to watch the second episode anyway. Wasn't super impressed until....

"OMG IS THAT A MANTICORE? AND A REFERENCE TO ANDROCLES AND THE LION?!"

........

"I guess I'll give this a show a little bit more of a chance."

Before I knew it I had watched every episode that had aired and waiting for the next episode.

Pretty much the same story as yours.
Saw a bunch of peoples avatars changed to ponies which eventually led me to KnowYourMeme just to figure out what it was only to find out that it was a tv show.
So I tried the show out.
Grew on me pretty quickly.

I just randomly selected one episode to watch, it was "Putting your hoof down" and needless to say it was amusing. Then I started to watch from the beginning.

I don't see why people can't enjoy it just because its main audience are young girls and their parents. As I know it, Avatar: The last Airbender seems to aim at young boys but I've never seen anyone get criticised for liking it.

Well I first heard about the show when I saw that Mcdonald's was giving out My Little Pony toys via Happy Meals.

At the time I just scoffed and paid no heed.

Later on, I noticed that a bunch of people on here were using Pony avatars. I thought it was strange, but I rolled with it.

Then I heard how good this show was, and curiosity got the better of me and I watched the two part pilot episode.

At the time I thought, this was alright. Definitely better than anything called "My Little Pony" had any right to be. A few days later, I decided to watch the third episode. Then the fourth. Then the fifth...

Eventually I watched the entire first season on Youtube within a few days. During that time, I used a Fluttershy GIF as my avatar and admitted that I became a brony through a couple of threads. Including this one thread on the Forum Games. I was then invited to join our quaint little group here on the Escapist.

I must say, I was really surprised at how great the show was. Never in my entire life did I expect to fall in love with My Little Pony of all things. I even told my brother about it and he didn't believe me. Eventually though, he started watching the show and really liking it too.

And now here I am, with a Sweetiebelle avatar in tow and anticipating the next episode.

I took the plunge in August of 2011. I had seen more and more pony-related images cropping up around the interwebs, and my curiosity was piqued. I looked up the first episode on Youtube and...stopped. My cursor hovered over the "play" button, but I just couldn't bring myself to actually click it. I like to think of myself as an open-minded man, but a part of my brain still rebelled at the idea of watching a show for "little girls." Then again, I suppose it's not surprising given the track record of the series prior to FiM. I suppose another part of me was apprehensive about the prospect of liking the show. Some part of me seemed to realize I was on the brink of something, and I wasn't sure if I was ready for it.

I tried again a few days later. Again I hesitated, then I steeled myself and followed through. Since the first episode is a two-parter, I figured I might as well see the conclusion. I recall being mildly impressed by what I had watched so I decided to start watching episode three...

It all happened alarmingly fast. I came out of a four-hour marathon session with the stunning realization that I had become a "brony" practically overnight. I had indeed fallen down the proverbial rabbit hole...but oh, what a wonderland...!

Also, Rarity is best pony.

'Twas a few days before Christmas 2011, at my friend's birthday party. I barely knew anything about the brony phenomenom.

At one point in the night, one of the other partygoers quite literally dragged our asses in front of the laptop and forced us to watch the first two-parter episode.

The next day, my parents asked me about the party, and I described it as such: "Eh, the usual. We had cake, played video games, watched a cartoon for little girls... *sigh* enjoyed it more than I probably should've...", which got a good laugh out of 'em.

That afternoon after work, I typed in MLP FIM Episode 3 into Youtube, and the rest is history.

That's its charm and the reason for the community existing for older men, hence why people who are in love with this show are so defensive about and not liking these people is discrimination and other such stuff. It happens when you feel ashamed about this show you love but want to show you're an individual, are ironic etc. If someone said they hated Law and Order which I really like, I couldn't give a shit, but the bronies are a different manner

People kept on going on about it so I figure I'll watch an episode.
That's all I've watched since Season 1 was released.

Watched the show up to episode 5 about 1.5 years ago because of everyone else saying it is the best thing since sliced bread, and found myself decidedly unimpressed. It was just really... bland, I dunno. Haven't really looked back on that decision since. Still don't understand what so many other see in that show...

I came to this site last year in june, I noticed a fair amount of pony avatars and I thought it was something this site alone was doing, didn't even know that it was a TV show. I asked in a thread about the avatars and someone directed a youtube link to season 2 episode 1. I didn't watch it because I thought that grown men shouldn't watch kids shows, after a while I finally caved and started at Season 1 episode 1 and haven't looked back since. :3

It was nearing the end of 2010, and a certain imageboard was being flooded with pony pictures. I saved a few, because they looked cute. Growing curious, I watched half an episode on youtube, and was immediately hooked.
