I'd heard about it, but don't know much about it. May I suggest clearing up your post a bit? Grammar and paragraphs will help put your point across in a more clear manner.

Dear LORD. Punctuation and paragraphing can go a long way. Welcome to The Escapist!

OT: I have heard of Painkiller, and I agree with what you say. It is very original and the guns are fun on the bun. I wouldn't say it's say it's the greatest game ever, or the most visually pleasing, but still a good game.

Cult classic that everyone should give a go.

Wall of text! *gets crushed under*

By that I mean TLDR.

And lots of us Escapists have heard of Painkiller, which has to do with Zero Punctuation's review of it. I've played the demo, and it's a hilarious amount of fun.

Use periods and capitals next time lol. The game sounds...Ok.
Haha, how very amusing. Sometimes I don't know when I should just ignore being a grammar Nazi...

Fuck that, let's start with sentences, shall we?

And I've heard of Painkiller, though I also heard it's shite.

That is the most unreadable post I've seen on this site in a long time. I'm not even going to try to sort it out. The first Painkiller was awesome, though. It's like someone finally managed to get the feeling of something like the original Doom right in a fully 3D engine, which I never really felt was true even in id's own games. No run button, because why would you ever want to not be running? No reload button, because reloading is for wimps. Almost no plot, because what excuse do you need to shoot them other than that they're demons? The level and character design is also great (and they get away with a bunch of really random stuff with no real theme or continuity but make it work anyway), along with some pretty creative weapons. It's just fun, which a lot of modern FPSes seem to forget about.

The way that people write things can help a lot in other people understanding it. For example: I got bored reading your entry, because I couldn't understand a thing.

To answer the question stated as your thread title: Yes, I've played it years ago, was fun but nothing more than a bit more above the average shooter I've encountered.

It's a really great FPS.

If I said that you only need to shoot tons of demons in this game, everyone would say "oh meh no strategy just shoot everything". No its not really like that, it's an awesome game. It has more enemy types than any FPS I have ever played. The levels are just awesome. There is even a site where a skilled photographer took pictures with his camera and made a whole site dedicated to it.

The weapons are awesome too. I am now gonna tell what kind of weapons there are in this game because they're to awesome to miss and are completely diferent and original than any other FPS.

So you start the game with weapon 'The Painkiller', I could explain it by two words - laser and chainsaw, but I'll get it all detailed technically. It's a metallic pipe with lots of spinning blades forming a circle at the end of the pipe, it can also fire out the blades. When it does fire them out it leaves a laser trace behind the blades which never disappears until a dumb enemy runs into the blades, then the lasers will stop ( the monsters are swarming out of every corner, it almost looks like teamwork when one runs into the blades that produce the laser line).

The second gun you get right after walking behind the wall in the first level is a freezer/shotgun. It's primary fire shoots out shotgun blasts and it's secondary fire shoots out freezer rounds. It freezes the enemy and when the enemy is frozen it can be killed with one shot from any gun.

The third weapon you get is just awesome. It's a stake gun/grenade launcher, the primary fire shoots out a stake (you know a stake that is nailed to a vampire's heart in films) that nails the enemies to walls and secondary fire shoots out grenades. Now if the stake flies a great distance it sets on fire (yeah, the guns are that awesome) and you can do a combo with this gun like shooting out a grenade then shoot a stake right at the grenade you shot and it will be an awesome projectile. Imagine a half grenade/half stake.

Now there's another one: Minigun, Rocket Launcher. Just a crossover of a Rocket Launcher and a Minigun, nothing unseen before.

The last gun you aquire is a shuriken/lightning shuriken gun. It's primary fire shoots shurikens which explode after they fly a long distance, it's secondary fire shoots electricity at enemies(when enemies die from electricity they twitch on the ground, it's awesome!). You can also shoot out this giant and very detailed shuriken powered with lighting, it's almost like a shield. If you shoot it near you all the enmies that go near the giant lightning shuriken get electrocuted.

There's also this demon gun. Every time you collect 66 souls from dead enemies you turn into a demon, and then you can kill everyone with the demon gun. One shot not only kills but when you shoot at someone they explode into pieces and then this blood rain rains on you from all the eviscerated enemies that have been blown to pieces.

That's all the guns.

Now the story is lame by average gamer standards, but remember the time when games could be fun and not have a good story; remember when games didn't even have a story but they were fun. I mean imagine Tetris or Pacman with a story. No, you can't imagine them with a story.

Okay so i just counted, there's 52 diferent enemies modeled very cleverly and creatively (counting the minibosses and bosses). There's 25 levels, every level introduces new enemies. Some have minibosses and there are 5 HUGE bosses. There are 24 skills(called black tarot cards). The cutscenes are awesome.

The hall game is downright awesome! Just go through the levels with your favorite weapons and blast the living hell out of stuff. There's also secrets, treasure, holy items and gold if you passed the levels already and you want to collect stuff for some reason.

So why so many people don't even know about the game? (What the fuck?)

For my interest im gonna add a poll to this post to find out how many people even heard about painkiller before my thread.

If you don't have the game I recommend you to buy it!
Unfortunately I couldn't fix everything. This was a challenge though, no doubt!

EDIT: Your post has a bunch of flaws, and this game doesn't really have an excuse for having a shit story. But I guess it pulls it off.

It's not that I haven't heard about it, it's just that there are 15 thousand other games that are way more fun to play. :/
