In today's world of political correctness and abuse of "rights," there are some groups that you'd be hard pressed to find anyone defending. Known as acceptable targets (at least on TV Tropes), these are groups of people who's ideas run so counter to the rest of society that despite their status as people with rights, nobody cares about (and many often encourage) making fun of them. Groups like Nazis, PETA members, Scientology (and other cult) members, people who deny that there ARE any acceptable targets, etc.

So, what are your acceptable targets? Groups that you feel comfortable making jokes about without fear of backlash?

For me, one would be hipsters. It's a pretty common one, but I think it's totally justified. If you've ever used the word "sheep" to describe people in a completely serious way, I will mock you always and forever.

A less common one for me is Mac users. Not just someone who uses a Mac, that's just a preference. I mean people who tout Macs as the clearly superior choice in computers/phones/operating systems/whatever else they make. There's nothing wrong with preferring a Mac to a PC, but when you make it apparent in a conversation that you've basically drunk the Kool-aid of the Cult of Apple, I will mock you unapologetically.

Stupid people.

Every foul-up, snafu, grievous error, idiotic mistake, or asinine action can and will be talked about. The trials and tribulations of a dumbass should be paraded around like a New Orleans funeral march so that even the most stubborn of fool will get the picture and cut it out.

This line of thinking covereth alot of sins, I know.

I'm hesitant to make fun of someone for doing something stupid. Everybody does stupid things every now and then. Of course, for those who do the exact same stupid thing over and over, yea, I don't feel bad for making fun of them.

The idea is that a stupid person is the kind that would be repeating bad mistakes again and again. People still have their DUH moments. It's when they get too frequent that the snark comes out.

Hmm. I think that Macs are the clearly superior computers. Why would I use them if I felt they were inferior? It's still personal preference, though. I prefer an iPod for music, too. Not a big fan of iPhones, though. Too slow and apps too often ragequit. I prefer the Androids I've used. So, mock me if you must. :) I'm not at all bothered by it.

I don't guess I mock anyone, really. It just isn't my thing.

I would say ignorant and people who have more excuses than they have brains.

In this day and age, where technology allows up to be more exposed to the world outside our city/community, and an infinite amount of information is at our fingertips, there is no excuse for people to be as ignorant as they are now.

People who make excuses are essentially crying out that they are not good enough for themselves to take responsibility for their actions or admitting to what they have done. People tend to pity and sympathize with these people, but I don't.

Politicians - because almost none of them go into politics for the right reason, or they quickly change in order to survive. Because you can't be a genuinely nice person and succeed in politics. Although there a very few exceptions, for extraordinary times, like Ghandi and Mandela, but these days if you are a politician, you are almost certainly a jerk or have "flexible" principles or no real principles at all. Whether you are on the left or the right, being a politician these days means 1) Lying and 2) Lying about why you're lying and 3) Lying about the other guy (who is also lying). That's pretty much all they do. And in some ways they aren't really that responsible - people WANT their politicians to lie. They HATE being told the truth, they HATE being given the unvarnished facts about why such and such is impossible or unnecessary or impractical. People want promises - the more, the better. They want politicians who will listen every one of their asinine, half-baked "arm-chair" political ideas and tell that they'll do it (even when it would be a good idea not to do it).

And the second target: The People. Because they are very often just as stupid as they are made out to be. Now, look, I love humanity. I love my species as we have created and achieved some AMAZING things. I fully understand that for society to work, it has to involve everyone and that everyone has an important part to play. Scientists couldn't do science if they didn't have farmers to help grow food. Doctors couldn't treat patients without ambulance drivers to transport the patients to hospitals.

But like that old, tired line from MIB: "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it". There is good psychological evidence to suggest that when you are put into a group, your ability to think critically is impaired, compared to when you are asked to think about a problem alone. People are quick to place blame on others, quick to shift blame from themselves and think that they really do have it all figured out. You see this all the time - people complaining about "why can't the government just do X", as if it really was THAT simple to do X.

Think back to all the "witch" burning and the "Them's a cath-lic! Ah's ain'ts gunna vote for no Cath-lic!" and to the present day "That darn sunna-a-gun's an Ah-thee-ust! Ah's ain't gunna vote for no's ah-thee-ust!". Or the time the Red Guards of China would beat up anyone who spoke a foreign language. Or the bands of Hutus who went around slaughtering Tutsi's and vice-versa. Or the scores of Americans who seriously believe that their president, someone who has had his past scrutinized by the Republican party and the US government and who is a confirmed Christian (remember all that stuff about his pastor?) could really be a secret muslim kenyan socialist communist!

Or all those people in my home state of Queensland who seriously believed that "fluoride in the water is bad for you!" - they stopped fluoride from being added to tap water in QLD for DECADES, despite every other state doing it with no problems! Or all those people who seriously believe that a FOOT-MASSAGE can cure things like Autism and get rid of "toxins" (it's called Reflexology and it's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard about). Or the idiots who seriously believed that the Hadron Collider was going to create a black hole (Well did it? Huh?) or those idiots who STILL believe that 2012 will be the last year on Earth because the Mayans stopped updating their stone calender past that point (Gee, they couldn't go on making calendars forever now could they?)

As much as I love humanity, the people can be frightfully stupid at times. You know this is true. From 4-bladed razor blades that do nothing a 1-bladed razor blade could do, to "organic water" being sold in supermarkets, to "vaccines-cause-autism" and the "medical" doctrine of "Mummy knows best" (espoused by lunatics such as Jenny McCarthy), you know humanity, as smart as it can be, can be frightfully, FRIGHTFULLY dumb.

Transgender people seem to be fair game still, very rarely treated positively in media/culture.

That's one thing, but then there are the people that refuse to accept there is any situation in which another operating system would be better, and that it's perfectly fine to want to use it for that. They all have their shortfalls, and while proper thinking about what you want to use it for is required, there's nothing wrong with looking at the same set of options and deciding that something different is best for you.

OT: More or less anyone that doesn't understand that just because they like or don't like something, other people can't disagree with them and if they do they're wrong.

Also, anyone who says things to the effect of "You shouldn't buy Call of Duty, it's just a linear FPS with a short campaign and a multiplayer!" Whoopty fucking doo, no one heard this and thought "Oh, I'm glad you warned me, I thought it was going to be an open world fantasy RPG." Something about the fact it said Call of Duty on the box told people it was going to be exactly that. Next up, Mass Effect 3 will be rubbish because of all the aliens. I really wish I just made up that last sentence myself, and didn't hear someone actually say it.

I'll second the politicians thing. You don't get into a position of power in politics by being a kind and decent person, it's just not how it works. You have to have climbed over others and stepped on some faces to get there.

Oh, and the WBC are just asking for abuse. Personally, I'm longing for the day some nut walks up to them at a funeral they're protesting and shoots them. That'll make my day!!

To be fair, Fox News does have an actual reporting segment with actual journalists who are pretty competent at REPORTING the news. That part is fine. But yea, the opinion pieces are often just... ugh.

Oh yes, and the WBC. If it was ever possible to snark a group out of existence, they'd be the first to go.

My own personal acceptable target? Well, I'm gonna take a tonne of flak for this I just -know- it.

But for me it's Drunk Natives. Yes it's a stereotype, yes it's a touch racist, yes not all of them are like that, yes one of my best friends grew up on a reserve and he makes me look stupid on a regular basis. But I still cannot get over, nor can I feel bad about, making fun of the stupid, ignorant, wasting my tax money on cheap booze and cigarettes and still bitching that they aren't treated fair enough, natives.

Having lived in several different cities in Western Canada, I've seen this stereotype -far- too much to ignore it. Natives who think that just because their ancestors had it rough, that they should get every damn thing they want handed to them on a silver platter. To be fair, they did have it rough for a very long time, I sympathize with that and I can understand where much of the animosity comes from. I do not disagree with some of the concessions made. What I disagree with is my government's apology being "Here, have some cheap booze ad cigarettes, because that's totally not what we did to cheat you out of your land in the first place, right?"

If you are a First Nation in this country, you have preference over -more qualified- people if you want to work in any trade or the government, You are given a tax break on smokes, alcohol, and fuel. You are given access to extensive government grants and tuitions if you wish to go to post-secondary, and, if the gods forsake you and you -still- can't make yourself something out of that, you are given preferential, and more lenient treatment in regards to welfare and income assistance.

I have nothing against First Nations people, I have -everything- against people who, with all of this given to them as an apology for something that happened more than two generations ago, still spend their lives living on welfare and drinking themselves homeless, then blaming it on the white majority.

So I guess what I really hate is simply anyone who doesn't take responsibility for their own lives, and instead tries to find fault with something or someone else.

Government workers. They get every holiday a paid day off and full benefits with job security from the taxes of people with NONE of that. I admit to being extremely jealous and spiteful to them for it. And the government for bailing out the auto industry for a mess their own greed caused to begin with. If a government worker makes a mistake they merely get a slap on the wrist while anybody else would get fired.

I do have some personal reasons for hating on my government, mostly for them refusing my mother disability and then her dying 2 months afterwards. Doubt I'll ever put it down.

Vegetarians, any group that says that a animal has rights that deny me to use my ability to digest meat that has developed over millions of years of evolution to give humans an edge in the survival of the fittest are insane in my eyes, also, my friend Rylan, it's so easy to piss him off (in a joking, fun way), if we argue, I'll use inane, nonsensical arguments that are technically right to beat him.

Every. Single. One.

If any of the groups or individuals can't take criticism They most likely deserve it. I don't see the whole point of political correctness at all. I don't give a damn about "backlash", I say what I feel, mean, and want to say. I don't degrade/mock people for no reason, but if someone gives me that reason, be it stupidity, ignorance of fanaticism I won't hold back no matter what is their religion, skin colour or life philosophy. Hiding own flaws behind any of this deserves to be pointed out.

That's fairly common in Australia with aboriginals. For the most part they're relatively friendly but it became a serious enough problem for the government to cut off alcohol and petrol in communities with a high level of aboriginals.

OT: Bogans. I'm pretty sure we only use the term in Australia but they're, for a lack of a better term, white trash and because I live in a relatively small city (Perth by the way) I see a lot of them. I've never had a problem with the aforementioned natives, they've always been friendly and polite. I've had a lot of problematic bogans though. A lot.
