On the eve of Modern Warfare 2's official release, the game's publisher has announced intentions to donate $1 million to veteran-related charities through a newly created foundation. The "Call of Duty Endowment" (or simply "CODE") is said to "support other groups that assist veterans with their careers," reports the Washington Post.

Despite the obvious publicity this'll generate, I actually have to admit that Activision is making a pretty damn good choice here. Well played Activision, well played.

I agree, this is blatantly a publicity stunt, and perhaps a way of shifting attention away from the more controvertial aspects of MW2.

But either way, nicley done *nods head appreciatively*

That's nice of them.

It's just a shame that none of those brave, limbless veterans will be able to play on dedicated servers on Modern Warfare 2...
[small]At least they'll be able to play Guitar Hero 9, I mean, the ones with fingers anyway...[/small]

I really don't see what the big halabaloo is over MW2?. I mean honestly, it's just a new game. People should just get over their hangups; if they don't like it don't buy it. There is little need to push their ridiculous propaganda on other people.

OT: That's a very sweet gesture though. Good on them.

I agree with you, I can't quiet get my head around the pure hatred that has developed for Activision and IW. I don't give a toss about dedicated servers or no mods, I just want it for single player. But realisticly, Activision will have seen the anger of gamers and anti-violent game activists and will be in damage control to avoid being tarred and feathered by the public. Publicity can make or break something like this.

No offence, but what a stupid comment to make...

Okay. Which of you is responsible for threating them into this?

Judging from some of the replies in this thread, it's not working.

Blatant publicity stunt, but $1 million to veteran-related charities.

You know what? Let them have their publicity.

I know it's been said, but although this'll give them the publicity they want, this was a good move.

Noice one Activision. Keep it up (hahaha).

I'd imagine not when the thread is about Activision and how they are trying to make us think they are lovely, cute and fluffy.
they make modern warfare

nobody thinks they're lovely, cute and fluffy, and if they do, then let natural selection have its way

Genuine act of charity, or publicity stunt, it matters not. They get good publicity, and worthy charities get some scrilla. Good times.

Also it might help to even out their karma, after they removed PC dedicated servers....

Good for Activision.

Charity is charity even if its for publicity.
i really do have to disagree there. charity for the sake of charity is a good thing, but charity for your own sake, instead of just the sake of giving to charity, is not. when you do this your trying to appear like your giving of yourself for the well being of others, but giving for your own sake is just selfish. your not actually thinking or even caring about those who will benefit from your donation.

in my opinion its one of the biggest ways to show your own hypocrisy, and thats all this is, activision giving to, or in this case creating, a charitable organization only so that they can appear like they care, but the sad truth is that its just the opposite, this is giving so that you can get something in return, in this case good publicity to cover up all the bad publicity they have been getting lately, and well deserved bad publicity if i might add. thats not called charity, its called being deceptive.

just think, that million dollars could've gone towards dedicated servers. Good job activision. A few guys who fought in Iraq like you now. Your fanbase however, still thinks you're a dick.

Well this is clearly a publicity stunt. That said...
I will be getting this game now, most certainly. If supporting CoDMW2 means that programmes like this gain more support and attention, and money gets thrown at people who actually -need- it, then I'm willing to tolerate over-hyped games for a while.
