I'm thinking about getting into cosplay but I'm not really sure who I could dress as. I'm a guy, white, about 5' 11'' and blonde. I've been thinking about different options but all I can really come up with is Albert Wesker from RE or Duke Nukem, but I'm not muscular enough to pull Duke off. Most of the characters I can think of seem to have dark hair, and I'd like to avoid dying my hair if at all possible.

Any suggestions? They don't specifically have to be game related, but I'd like something simple and well-known. Can you help me out?

I've only cosplayed 4 times and 3 of them have been actually decent.

First off, shop around for cheap cosplay outfits if you're not confident about making your own. I certainly aren't, I can make accessories like when I cosplayed Fluttershy I made her wings and ears but everything else was shop bought and slung together, still looked pretty good. I know a few good sites. I've been fairly lucky and bought from sites that look dodgy and it's been okay.

You seem pretty lucky, you could probably pull off most looks. If you want to look good and take it seriously, play to your strengths. Go for characters with a similar build to you, or even a character you would feel comfortable wearing their clothes. There's no reason you couldn't pull off a bigger character than yourself as long as it's not a ridiculous difference.
If you just want to have a laugh then you could go for anything as long as you feel comfortable.
Don't ever cosplay something you're not comfortable wearing. I have much more fun in a good cosplay because people want to interact with you more and respond more positively.

I would NEVER cosplay a barely naked woman. I don't have the figure to do so, and I don't want people seeing all my wobbly bits when I could look much better in another outfit.
I have cosplayed a slim character with fairly small boobs when I'm the complete opposite but loads of people said I looked good and cute so I think as long as the outfit is good, you can look and feel good.

That's just my advice, cosplay doesn't have any rules, so just enjoy yourself :) You'll be surprised what you can pull off and how good you'll look so don't be afraid to be adventurous.
Most of all, be confident!

For reference, my cosplays:

I'll add more later, they're all on my Facebook which is down at the minute ;_;

Im not really sure what your interests are so I couldn't suggest a character but if you want to cosplay a brown haired character and dont want to dye your hair than wigs are always an option and thats how most people cosplay characters with a different hair colour than their own

Just do what you want, honestly, if you go by your own build you are limiting yourself, do your own version of a character you like. Any cosplay can be adjusted to fit your own build, I'm a bit of a big guy so when I did Luffy from One Piece I was bigger then the rest of my group but they didn't care. Same with my Vash the Stampede one.

What this lady said. It depends on how deep you want to go: if you want to do a SPR SRS cosplay, go for a character that looks similar to you in build and features. Hell, sometimes it's best to go with something where only your build counts! In my experience, sometimes a face-concealing mask or helmet works well.

Also, EeveeElectro, all things considered, you pull off not only the cosplays, but your overall look and build well. I'm no pencil either, and I'm glad to see that a few extra pounds doesn't exclude one from beauty. You're adorable.

Awww thank you! :) ♥ I am aiming to lose a few pounds but I'll never be skinny. I won't let the fact I don't have a typical fictional woman body stop me from Cosplay and neither should anyone else. Same goes for skin colour, one of the best Axels I saw was a black lady, she looked amazing.

Nothing should stand in your way if you want to do a serious cosplay. I'd rather see someone who doesnt have the perfect build in a well detailed outfit over someone who looks the part but wearing more or less a paper bag haha.

You and I are in the same camp, in both places. I won't be real skinny either, but at least I can go for a decent athletic build (like The Boss from Metal Gear, I've got the same height and bone shape) so that's what I'm working towards. I'm also more appreciative of a cosplay outfit when I see that the person doing it has put in considerable amounts of work. It's especially cool when they put together something like an Iron Man outfit with glowing lights and an automatic faceplate.
