Aesthetic choices/styles you really like?

Like the title asked, are there any particular styles of aesthetic that you just adore? Doesn't have to be for anything in particular (machines, clothes, fictional, real...)

Here's a couple of mine:

Only recently realized that this is a recurring theme with me. Part of what inspired me to make this thread.

Spoiler: When it comes to machines, both real and fictional, I like the sleek, ''predatory'' aesthetic.

Spoiler: Long/Heavy Coats in General

Sort of ties in with the 1st one, but I feel it's different enough to warrant it's own section. Probably the one that's most applicable to reality rather than fiction, too.

And while I don't "adore" it per se, I do harbour something of a soft spot for the old 1950-1960s sci-fi/B-Movie art style. Robbie the Robot, Flying Saucers, Ray guns with those little rings around them, stuff like that.

Well, if we're talking clothing, I like punk and emo, and all the in-between of that.

And to keep with the robot thing, I like alot of the "Bad guy" mobile suits of Gundam.
I dont feel like bothering with images right now (lazy) but I really like Zaku styled suits, such as well, Zaku IIs and Goufs, and I love Haman's Qubeley.

I also like those big long heavy coats. Especially with fur-necks like the guy who is head of the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 4.

Old-fashion I prefer more 40's-50's. Oppression and Inequality never looked so pretty.

And thinking about it, I think I like almost-cartoony visuals in games. Not full on Windwaker, but rather things between Borderlands, to Bioshock, up until about Fallout 3 and 4. I kind of wish Bethesda would make their Fallout games more stylized visually.

It's hard to narrow down for me, as any style can look great with enough grace and conviction. I've seen styles I love done terribly and styles I thought were shit, done very well. Am going to try and streamline this;

Post-apocalyptic variations
Whatever Dishonoured 2's visual style falls under, mystical dark Victorian fantasy steampunk painting...erm...still think there should a a single term for that.
There's definitely more, but should leave it there for now.

I agree with a lot there, have never seen gas sculptures before though. They look quite entrancing, like a lava lamp completed metamorphosis, broke out of its' cocoon to find others of its kind for colourful reproduction. How are they made, do you know? Is it something the average person could do? Sheet metal art is great also!

Well to make something like gas light sculptures it takes a variety of skills/ resources.

First you would have to learn to do glass blowing ( many areas have classes that have everything you need there)
Then you you need to learn about making a plasma light..
Then you learn to work with gas to achieve different affects with a tesla coil..
For more research on "how to" you would look up " how to plasma light" or "how to Plasma lamp" how to "Tesla coil" ect to see different methods/ resources used, some cheap and some more expensive.

The sheet metal art is pretty easy to do, I actually make quite a bit of that. You just take a dremel and use a grinder tip to put your design on it and you can seal that in with a sealant or you can use candy paints to add color then seal it Mount it to a board in whatever design you want it to and add LED lights behind it and you have a nice sculpture. You can start out with inexpensive easy to obtain supplies like aluminum roll

grind a design into it attach it to a back board using spacers of different heights to create a wave and throw some LED Xmas lights behind it and you have a inexpensive nice metal sculpture.
You can put color changing led behind them as well or punch holes in it and have led light shine through them as well. It is fun to experiment with and incorporate other things. I Like to use acrylic sheet, bubble lights, gears, nuts and bolts and other sheet metal parts as well ( airplane parts, car parts, train parts, bicycle parts ect are really good to work into a design too)

Ooh, wow, those sculptures do require a lot more planning and resources than I was hoping, but certainly not impossible and the density of my area should allow easy access to everything needed. Those have sparked an interest and something like that looks well worth the effort of determination, those links are saved now for later reference, thanks for sharing! Ironically, the sheet metal art was what I expected to be the complicated one, but it is much more accessible and obvious to see now you've described the method. Which means I can at least practice one of these within a realistic time-frame after current tasks are finished, Thank-you for the unexpected inspiration and shared knowledge! It is always great to practice new ideas.

Never played a single Killzone game, but I love the designs

Heck, I like a lot of bad guy designs in fiction. I'm annoyed that good guys can never get something kickass like that.

Also love gothic like settings that 40k has going with it. Massive and magnificent combined with nitty gritty.

Wings. I love wings, most in general, but if I had to pick one specifically, feathered wings, or mechanical/projections/designs to give a feathered impression, literal or stylistic.

This can be actual wings, wing decorations on helmets/shoulder pads etc, wing designs drawn or tattooed.

General consensus on this seems to be mixed, but I really like the heavy, black lines of cel-shading, as seen in No More Heroes

and most of the Telltale games. Something about having a really smooth, comic-looking illustrated game that moves just gets me. First game I played with it (maybe the first game that had it?) was XIII, which was predictably based off a French comic book. Really loved the art style.

The other style I like is sci-fi mixed with modern world kind of stuff, with subdued colors to make it look less, dunno, "fantastic" for lack of a better word. Easiest example of this is Simon Stalenhag, believe he's Swedish.

Just superb blend of Metal Gear, District 9, Flashback type of mech/armor designs and nature, colors. Goes well with a 80's synthy soundtrack like Perturbator or Carpenter Brut (without the copious amounts of neon). Could gaze at his drawings all day.
