So my girlfriend posed this question to me in the car the other day, and I found that I didn't have to think to long before I mentioned the one album that changed my life forever (better or worse). I was wondering what you guys had to say about that.

Oh, and my pick was Metallica's Ride The Lightning. It's the album that cemented my love for Heavy Metal. It was the album that made me realize exactly the type of music I wanted to listen to.

3 Doors Down's "The Better Life" has had a positive impact on my life. Many of the lyrics have really stuck with me, and it never fails to cheer me up when I'm down. :)

Led Zeppelin's first album was what triggered me to start listening to rock music (which was the first music I listened to. I've certainly branched out since then.)

Hmm... None?

Really, I barely listen to music, usually just when I'm riding in a vehicle somewhere and not driving or talking to someone. It's not a big part of my life.

Smile by Brian Wilson. It made me realize just how much music is capable of doing.
Wow. I never expected anyone to say that.

I too love that album if that indeed is what you were implying.

OT, Accelerated Evolution by Devin Townsend. It was the first one I ever heard and he is now my all time favorite metal musician.

Maybe Californication. RHCP was the first band I actually noticed their songs as the same group on the radio when I was little, and it probably will always be my favorite album. Now music is second only to gaming.

That was indeed what I was implying. It's my favorite album. Good to know there are others who have heard it and love it.

For me it was Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness, it was the first Album I ever bought back in 2008, before then I was just someone who just listened to whatever, music was a passive thing and not something I particularly really LISTENED to. Now I was 18 at that point, wow, I started late in this whole "appreciate music" thing.

Since then of course I've bought lots of music and expanded quite a bit, I used to hate anything metal and what not but now there are quite a few things I like from it...

I tend to stick to "prog" in a way, really like Rush now....

Bone Machine by Tom Waits. I first listened to it in 2002, and promptly left Staind, Linkin Park and all the radio-driven dreck like it, the dreck I used to like, behind. I have had no temptation whatsoever to revisit it. I wish the guy who first recommended it to me didn't disappear off the face of the earth - I owe him a huge thank you.

Rust in Peace. That album made me want to play metal.
Awesome. I was only a kid and never owned many records, but this was the first record I ever listened to (thanks to my uncle), and I've loved Megadeth and metal in general ever since.

Ah, good. I had hoped you didn't mean it was so bad, it made you realize what music is capable of :p

And yes, it is a phenomenal album, though I think I liked his latest a bit better, though that's merely my opinion.

Ziltoid The Omniscient by Devin Townsend.

It didn't really change my life but Devin Townsend was the first band that I discovered by accident that I really liked, all my other music is either music I grew up listening to or it was recommended to me, but Devin Townsend's stuff was my own discovery , and I'm glad I did because he is awesome.

Dookie, by Green Day.

I was a kid, and it was the first time I'd felt that thrum of energy coming from music. That was my introduction to punk, and the music that made me want to learn to play guitar.

The Silent Hill 3 soundtrack.

Seriously.

Lost me friends, gained me friends, inspired an impassioned love for impressionistic soundscapes, holds my FAVORITE TRACK OF ALL TIME (<link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QstGmiEB09k>Rain of the Brass Petals - TVE).

What more could I want?

In terms of a positive impact, I'll cite the three biggest contributions to my current (and as far as I'm concerned, future) core musical tastes: "Colony", In Flames; "Against the Grain", Bad Religion; "...And Out Come the Wolves", Rancid.

And for a negative influence? "For Those Who Have Heart", A Day To Remember. My ex-girlfriend's favorite album, favorite band, yada yada...she got me into them, and to this day I can't listen to that album without withering a little bit internally.

...And Justice For All by Metallica. That album has the best riffs, melodies, and choruses of all time.
