I know a lot of people are a lot warier of Kickstarter as of late (or indeed anything that looks like a preorder after the Aliens: CM debacle) but for those of us who still enjoy the player input/interaction and the general vibe that comes from Kickstarting projects I would like to present to you Alive and Kicking: http://aliveandkicking.bumblebee-games.com/
I was linked to this by one of the projects I was already backing and it's already lead to me backing a few more. Basically the creators of one gaming project (Days of Dawn by Bumblebee) decided that, instead of the usual last hours countdown of 'watch us talk about our game and whatever else we can think of to pad out the time' the would instead spend eight hours talking to the teams behind 14 other Kickstarter gaming projects about their game before wrapping up with a half hour countdown for their own game.
Personally I think this is a great idea. Just looking at the parties that are going to be involved has already led me towards a whole lot of projects that I'm interested in that I never would have found we it not for this idea. Plus I look forward to hearing a bit more about some of the projects I've since backed straight from the mouths of the devs. Also, I have hopes that it's going to rally a bit more funding for some off the games involved that I really want to be made that, the way they're going, aren't going to be funded...
So, what does everyone else think of this? Are you too wary in the current climate/ in general to think about backing anything? Do you think this idea of "Alive and Kicking" is a good idea for the cross-promotion of projects or is it ultimately just a waste of time? Will you be watching any of it? And are there any projects involved that you think look particularly amazing?
Personally I'm really rooting for Project Cornerstone ( http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/billychester/project-cornerstone ). I think it looks like a fresh take on the concept of physics based adventure games and it seems to feel me with some kind of childlike glee.
