Does anyone ever notice how we never complain about how crap games are crap? Yet we complain about how the AI is dumb and the story was probably written by a 1st grader on a game that might still be good but will get blacklisted by the gaming community (see halo3). We can have big discussions about how GTA IV sucked because it wasn't as funny but we never talk about how the new Dora the Explorer game wasn't any good.

It's because games like GTA4 COULD have been great. Dora the Explorer...not so much. I think it's mostly just the disappointment that comes with playing a new game that you were really looking forward to and then realizing that it is really not very good.

It all about expectations, though you are right, people do tend to loose sight of the big picture.

Because most of us aren't stupid enough to buy the games that are bound to be bad (the exception being sonic games). I personally never bought GTA4 either, but whatever.

GTA 4 would have been great if it hadn't gone so serious, the first game was a fun filled murder spree game, this time if you try and enjoy yourself killing people you get force fed bullets by countless police. Also if the hype didn't put it on such a pedestal it could have been tolerated but then again thats all hype seems to do, give a game a goal it hardly achieves.

First, my response to the topic, since I usually like to actually make a valid point even if the thread is a load of rubbish for whatever reason.

Crap games aren't necessarily seen as crap by everyone. I am a fan of Halo yet a lot of people think that Bungie and Microsoft are just flogging a dead horse. As for the story of Halo 3, while we're at it, that couldn't have been written by a 1st grader because Halo actually has possibly the largest and most interesting expanded universe I have ever seen in a game, not counting the countless Star Wars horses that were killed, flogged, poked and made into glue that was also poked. And flogged. With a pointy stick. My point is, that everybody has different opinions, so there's no point saying that something is crap when really it's just you, and maybe some people you've spoken to, who agree. If you start a poll on whather any game you care to name is good or bad on here, there may be bias one way or the other but (as long as it doesn't refer to Twilight) there will always be people arguing both sides. It's as simple as that.

As for the second part of my post, i.e. referring to your own post, birdbrain, can you please learn to use some grammar and the Spell Check tool? I could barely understand half your post. For example, what does an Olympic Sport have to do with this discussion? You've been on this site long enough to know that we like people to use proper sentences and spelling/grammar here, and to make valid comments. You clearly do not. Just for future reference, if you want to stay on this site in the future...

And if it didn't require a PC stronger than 10%-15% of the gaming population has.

Even people responsible for porting the game have stated that it's been developed with processors and GPUs from the future.

You thought Crysis was demanding? GTA IV requires 4 cores and 2 GB RAM minimum. And 8800 at least.

I understand your point Birdbrain though, its because we've all played GTA4 and Halo 3, and we haven't played the shit games.

I dont understand the hate on Timeshift myself, the second half of that game rocks.

If a game is widely believed to be bad and is not seen as a popular mainstream title then people are less likely to buy it and therefore less likely to discuss it on forums such as this simply because not as many people are playing it as the big name mainstream games.

It's when those mainstream games have flaws that people don't like is why we're always hearing about them, even more so because the people who do like those games get up in arms about defending them... and the cycle continues.

because dora the explorer is obviously aimed at kids aged below 10 who enjoy the tv show. why would we even comment on such a game?

I thought GTA IV was great because it was so serious (while still managing to be very funny). The other games I thought were too lighthearted for the subject matter. In a colorful cartoony world, the explosions don't look out of place. GTA IV has the best explosions I've seen in a game because they feel as shocking as looking outside your window and seeing a car explode.
