No matter who you are there will always be a time where you are just about achieve something that you've been trying for ages, and then........... you fail. Wether its failing a really good song on Guitar Hero at 99%, geting KOed when you've gotten to the last round of time attack on DOA4, or when you loose by 1 point on Halo 3 Slayer.

It happens to all of us.

Are we discussing these moments? Or are you just explaining that these moments happen?

Yeah, I've let my guard down too quickly a few times. Are you asking to hear stories? Or is this just a one-paragraph rant?

It's like when somebody who's been watching you play blackjack and win says, "Man, you're really on fire! That's nine in a row! How much have you won?" Nothing kills you faster than talking about the proverbial "no-hitter."

I was trying to get Akimbo Assassin on L4D, I'm on the finale, and I just killed the second Tank. I heal up, then a hunter jumps out me and I whip out a SMG and fire off 2 rounds on accident. And the worst part is, they BOTH MISSED. Goddamnit.

Playing the end of Far Cry 2 in the Heart of Darkness - which was quite frustrating, but I had to finish the game - and had just completed a rather difficult firefight with several mercenaries. Glad I was finished with the ordeal, and nearly halfway through the Heart, I started sprinting to the objective... and then pressed "crouch".

I kneeslided off a cliff to my death. And my buddies were all dead. I haven't touched the game since. Fuck you, Far Cry 2.

Fuck you.

The one that first comes to mind for me was playing The Orange Box, more specifically Half-Life 2 Episode 2 as the Neighborhood Watch achievement. For this you had to protect all of the buildings from being destroyed by the striders and hunters. I would always be so close to the end until something stupid like, a log or a dead body would slow my car down and result in the building beings destroyed. After a total of, and yes this is the actual number, 33 tries I finally got the achievement.

I had no lives left. This is the reason why I don't play G 'n G anymore. Anyone else feel the same?

I get that, not in gaming, but in pool. I'm quite good, but some days I'll be on fire all day, then I'll play one too many games and will miss the easiest shots for like 3 games. Its frustrating beyond belief.

I experienced this countless times on the Jacknife speedrun in Mirrors Edge. Eleven minutes of hell.

I love to do that to my freind. It makes him so mad when I hit his hand making him run of a cliff.

Two:
Playing the Airport campain on L4D (name escapes me at the moment).
I was playing on expert, we defended whilst waiting for the plane. Plane arrives and I'm in pretty poor shape, but if I heal I risk slowing the team's departure down, making it harder to leave. I run to the plane with the FA pack in my hands, melee a couple of zombies out of my way and make it into the plane.

Little did I know that I was being followed by a tank who proceeded to come *inside* the plane with me, I had no-where to run. Weird thing was, he hit me once and left me. I may have survived if it wasn't for the boomer vomiting on me as well :(

I died, Louis died but the other two made it.

Playing No Mercy on L4D, going for the Unbreakable acheivement (no heals) with a bunch of bots. We make it through the final stage, I go down the stairs only for LouisBot to pin me in the corner of the stairwell and heal me... I fired a whole clip into him to get him to stop, but he wouldn't...

The majority of the combat sections and some of the more complicated jumps in Mirror's Edge definitely fall into this category. I swear, that girl Faith dies needlessly more often than Lara Croft does...

I was playing Jessica on GH, I think it was 2, I'm not sure anymore. But I was about to get a 100%, but then my friend's baby brother walks in front of me and I miss a note. I swear, I had never felt so much like punting a baby as I did at that moment.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that this is on Expert.
